    My First T

That's a great first T! Congrats. A. chalcodes was my first T as well. It was sold to me as a "sexed female" and about 4 years "she" molted out as a MM (mature male). All blonde except for every foot was black. Looked like he was wearing little black booties. ^_^ I don't think I got taken. I...

Should I be worried about my OBT sling?

Hehe. I don't think you will have to wait for it to grow up. When I had my OBT she started threat-posing at about 1 1/2". ^_^

    Handeled my obt

I would never have had the guts to do this with my OBT before she passed. Then again, she was larger than normal and threat posed and slapped the ground if you even looked in the cage. I had to rehouse her numerous times and pack her into a container when I moved and admittedly my heart was...

    What would you suggest?

I wouldn't say Iridopelmas are "cheap". haha. I paid a pretty penny for my I. hirsutum when I first got her. Then again that was prob 4-5yrs ago. I also recommend A. versicolor. They are fun to watch grow, have great attitudes, beautiful colors and live a fairly long time if you happen to get...

    R.I.P.. Schmidti!

Sorry about that. I cried when I lost the first tarantula I'd ever bought. I bought "her" at about 3" in leg span and then it molted out a MM about 3yrs later. He lived about another 6months or so after that. Recently lost my prized 6" P. murinus female that I'd raised from about 2" as well and...

    need some creative insight

I had thought about this but saran wrap is entirely too thin and easy to puncture and I'd have to keep replacing it. I did find a solution though. I was finally able to find some clear vinyl which is thick enough to be durable but very inexpensive.

    need some creative insight

I am building a race track for roaches to use when I do bug and spider shows. I have got pretty much everything planned out the way I want it and have (mostly) all of the wood pieces cut and ready for construction. My only problem is that I want the actual racing portion of the track to have a...

    You Little Orange Striped SOB

Use to have one that I'd swear was OCD about the water dish. Never failed. She would dump it over, fill it with substrate, take it inside the hide and put it upside down then pack the hide completely with substrate. Did it the exact same way every time.

    Just Curious

I hope to avoid this becoming another "handling debate" thread, so for the record, I very rarely handle my Ts unless doing a show or if it is necessary for rehousing or checking a health issue. Not something I do for "the fun of it". I am curious to hear from other experienced keepers what...

    Fact about Pink-Toes?

I saw a communal OBT enclosure once which was really interesting, but again "communal" meaning that there were multiple spiders in the same enclosure that stayed in their own territory and avoided each other. It was a HUGE enclosure with a lot of hiding places and each spider had webbed of it's...

    Pterinochilus murinus

    P. murinus bites cat I'm sure I'll get a lot of crap for this one but it might be good for people to know. I had my female P. murinus Pumpkin Monster for about 3years or so. Raised her from a small juvie so this was very sad for me: I came home from work one day and my cat had knocked over...

You know you are a tarantula collector if...

you open the door and the person backs up three steps bc they heard you carry spiders in your pocket/purse (true story. Apparently when I moved back to my very small home town my reputation preceded me) the local pet-shop owner gets excited when they see you and asks for advice on inverts you...

Man Collapses After Being Bitten Ten Times by a False Widow

Agreed! It's surprising how much more positive response you get just by smiling and stating cool facts.

    True spider ID-unknown jumper

most definitely a jumping spider. As far as narrowing it down to genus, a location would be very helpful for identification purposes.. From the picture it looks like it could be from the Platycryptus genus due to the size and fairly flattened body but seems to be lacking the distinctive chevron...

    Questions about Pamphobeteus "platyomma"

Congrats on your new tarantula and welcome to the hobby. Warning: It's addicting :P I got my P. platyomma at about 2" and have had her for probably 2 1/2yrs. She is about 6" now. As with any tarantula that I've had experience with, the frequency of molts decreases as they get larger, but when...

    Grammostola pulchripes

First off, congrats on adding a T to your home. IMHO, G. pulchripes is an excellent starter species. They are quite beautiful, get fairly large and tend not to be on the calmer side (although mine did become a little more easily agitated after being bred). I'd actually recommend, if you are...

In the spirit of St. Patrick's Day

I thought it would be fun for people to post pics of tarantulas that are sporting that gorgeous green. :D I'll start with my A. versicolor and her gorgeous blue/green carapace and my I. hirsutim and that striking iridescent blue/green on her feet. ^_^

    pics of my new OBT!!

This is my female, Pumpkin Monster. She'd be a lot to handle for the average size mature male though. She's about 6" and has a sizable attitude to match. I do hope you find a female in your area. I realize being a newer keeper you're probably not very comfortable with proper shipping techniques.

    pics of my new OBT!!

Hmm. It's too bad you don't know how long he's been mature. I've been looking for a MM for my girl for a while. Gorgeous male too.

    Centruroides vittatus info

Thinking of picking up a few of these. I know these are very small, communal scorpions that are semi arboreal but I've also read they tend to be escape artists. Any advice on the type of housing that would be best for them to avoid escape? Really don't want to lose one and get tagged by this...
