We were driving back last night from the western part of the county. We have to pass a section of highway that borders a group of Beaver ponds. Well, the bugs were hatching by the hundreds of thousands. At 55mph, I was constantly pumping out windshield fluid and running the wipers. By the time...
Thanks for the info and links. I was impressed by one of the troops holding them in the picture with one of the "leatherman" tools. The one on TV last night was alive walking around a discarded MRE pouch and a butt of a M-16.
I don't know anything about these as I only saw a 2 second blip on the news this AM. It was so fast I really can't describe any other way except to say it looked BIG!!! It sorta looked like you could take it for a walk with a leash. If Anyone has any pictures and/or info please post asap! If I...
Another great pedator fish if you live in a state that allows them is the Red Tailed Snakehead..They can get up to 40". They can eat another fish almost as big as they are. Thats why they are banned in some states.
One of the sites that lists a lot of snakes and so on had them listed. What is the range of the Harvester ants? I do know that these lizards range as far north as parts of Canada. I also can't recall if all of this species squirts blood from its eyes? :?
If it was a WC, Release it. If it was a CB, Keep it. I had one years ago that I caught in Eastern Washigton. They are Ant eaters. They will eat mealworms and termites too. I was very inpressed as to the range these lizards are found.
This Saturday on the Animal Planet Channel has a show called the "Worlds Biggest and Baddest Bugs". The previews look like it might be a good one.
They have another show called "Venom ER" that was on last night. Last night they ran two shows back to back. It deals mostly about snake bites. But...
Good point there Wade! I have found that true with hissers. The more you have the more young ones per female. Also if you start out with say less than 60, keep them as cramped as you can. The last group that I purchased was 5 males and 15 females. At first the females would only drop 6 to 10 at...
Clint,
The brand name is "Quality Feed" unmedicated AP Poultry. It looks like tan mini rabbit pellets. Any co-op type store should carry it. Read the labels on the 20 or 50 pounders and they should say unmedicated even if it is a different brand. LOTSA LUCK!!
Another thing...
I use to do that years ago. The omly difference was that I used Nightcrawlers verses Redworms. They didn't need a bin or any type of container. I Tilled up a area that was roughly a 16'x16' plot of ground. Then put a bunch of 12"x12' s around the tilled area. that were 2 high. I seeded it with...
The feed that I give my roaches is the following.
1 cup ground kitten food
1 cup ground dog food
1 cup ground unmedicated chick food
1/2 cup unmedicated chick food [not ground]
6 tablespoons of powdered milk ground
6 to 8 tablespoons of ground up goldfish flakes
mix...
The tree frogs around here are out all night long. The wife and I have collected 6. The ones around here have so many different colors. We also caught 2 baby toads, 1" long. We also have 2 adult toads. Can anything be done to cut back on the smell after they poop? I have to clean them almost...
Anyone know when these were first introduced in this country? Are they still being imported into this country from Madagascar? Does diet play a part as to the male/female babies? What about diet and the different colors as they mature? Anyone else notice that some adults seem to have some of...
Another tip for increasing the number of young ones is to feed tha adult hissers oranges about every 3 weeks. I started another batch of hissers last November. I started out with 15 females and 5 males. I've kept them in a 30 gallon tote. No substrate. I now have over 400 that are 2 inches or...
Depending on the number of T's that you have should be a factor in deciding how many adult hissers that you should order. Adults, I would order 60 of them with a 1 to 3 male/female ratio. They'll start poping out young ones at a fair rate. At around 1 to 1.5 inches they'll make excellent...
After keeping Hissers off and on for years, I watched a big female give birth to 30+ little ones. They are pure white, Like grains of rice. The real interesting thing was the little ones were swarming all over the big female. They would zip to the back of her and then zip underneath her. They...
Wade, I agree with you 100% that there is bound to be new species idenified. I really want to try setting up new totes with new born and see what will happen if they are fed differently per tote. I just set up a tote today with 30 black male and females. I'm fixing another tote for the blacks...
