It seems like all of my favorites have been getting renamed. RIP B. smithi, G. aureostriata, M. cabocla etc.
Just goes to show how poorly understood they all are -- the more research is done, the more we learn we were incorrect.
On a side note, how is Homoeomma pronounced? Is the "oe" like...
Penultimate just means next to last, so it's a B. emilia that's one molt away from being mature. Although, I'm not sure there's an entirely proof-positive way of ensuring a tarantula is really only one molt away.
Has anyone ordered from Scott's Tarantulas recently? The last review was from 2007, http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?18925-Scotts-Tarantulas-(www.scottstarantulas.com)&highlight=scott%27s so I'm reluctant to order. Also, when googling his site, google says that his site might be...
There's a guy by the name of Rick Vetter at the University of California, Riverside: http://urban.ucr.edu/vetter.html
He does some various research on arachnids. I also suspect he is the secret owner of a tarantula collection that is kept in the university's insectary building.
Oh my, I can't believe there haven't been breeding reports on this species for about seven years! No wonder it's so hard to find B. klaasi.
Anyhow, I kept the male and female at different temperatures throughout their development in order to time their molts to line up. Originally, I was...
Hey everyone, I have a unique opportunity coming up: I'll be taking about a month for a road trip in an RV across much of the United States. I'll be going from central California all the way to about Illinois and Wisconsin. My plans are still pretty open, but I'd like to find some insects...
Thanks everyone! I sure hope they turn out ok. It's hard being a nervous parent :O_o:
Hey Jose, yup, he's the father! He took a long time to mature, but he did a good job once he did. I was thinking a little longer than 30 days too, but figured this would be a good place to find out.
Does anyone know how long the typical gestation times are for B. klaasi? (Time to 1st instar & time to 2nd instar?) My pretty lady produce an egg sac last Tuesday, and I'm wondering when to expect the new "children." From some basic searches, it appears that not a lot of info exists online...
It was hard to get a decent picture without disturbing her, but those are the best I could get. You can see the eggs in the first picture! That's the yellowish mass between her legs. By the end of the day, she had wrapped it all in a nice ball in the second picture. She seems to be doing a...
Just an update: She's been putting down a very substantial bowl of silk, so it looks like she'll be making an egg sac shortly. I guess she figured that was the best place for the kids. All I can do is cross my fingers and hope it all turns out at this point!
