It does look a bit on the skinny side, a molt is nowhere in the near future for sure. When my emperors went through a phase where they weren't growing at all I found out it was due to my tank heater going out and me not noticing. Once I replaced the heater and got it nice and tropical in there...
After my 2 flat rock scorpions molted this last time it seems pretty clear that I have one of each sex so I thought I would try pairing them up to mate. After an initial scuffle when the male first stumbled upon the female in her hide it seems like it was going well. The female seemed pretty...
Seems like a pretty likely scenario that the beetles could have tore up a dead/dying scorpion and scattered the pieces around, but another possibility is that the pieces you saw with the UV light were broken up pieces of an old molt. I know that's the case for me, if you light up my big tank...
I don't have answers to most of your questions, but I would actually go check out the "dictator" first to even check if that's what it truly is. You might luck out and have another emperor in which case you can just put it with your others. Most of the dictators sold as such are actually...
From my experience as soon as they have their first molt they will crawl off of the mother's back and from that point onward they are on their own. A 2i will hunt and eat all on their own if there is size appropriate prey or will scavenge if there is prekilled or some leftovers for some reason.
You mention humidity of the air as 70%, but was the substrate moist enough and did they have drinking water? Shipping causes stress in the animals and often they are very dehydrated once arriving.
Also i5-6 should be pretty large, more like sub adults.
Inbreeding with invertebrates isn't really as big of a deal as it is with mammals. A couple generations aren't going to make a difference with scorpions, and with small feeder insects it may take dozens of generations to see any effect if at all.
If you want to start them in a smaller tank and...
I have a small colony of dermestes maculatus that I've been trying to grow and yesterday I found what I later learned was a dermestes lardarius crawling around my house. Sounds like their care and potential usage is about the same so I was thinking of just tossing it into the bin with my...
I'm not sure I quite understand the desire for desert bio-actives. There isn't much going on in the way of bio or active in there. I've had my h. spadix in the same sand for months and I don't think I could even find any of its poop if I tried. With it being so dry in there and the substrate...
A 10 gallon tank should be good.
I'd give them 2 hides, but wouldn't be surprised if they end up sharing most of the time.
They shouldn't as long as you aren't starving them.
I don't think there is anything you can do, mating is one of the strongest forces embedded in living beings. Besides...
- I think it looks to be a pretty healthy weight, not starving but not anywhere close to pre-molt either.
- My only experience trying to feed my guys superworms ended up with them getting freaked out as well. As others have stated, it's probably still just getting settled in, but it might also...
Update, he molted last night. Very strange because he just ate a pretty big meal maybe 3-4 days ago. I am used to periods of weeks/months of pre-molt fasting with scorpions and tarantulas.
Thanks for the replies. I guess in all of the sites I've looked at for info they never mentioned that they live in webs, I always assumed they were nomadic. It's very plump and healthy looking, so it seems like it's just settling in and making itself cozy.
Thankfully all of my emperors are big enough to eat adult male dubias, they don't burrow and excess males need to be culled anyways, I always make sure to have at least a couple running around in there to make sure nobody is going hungry. My other scorpions all get dubia nymphs tong fed to...
I was lucky enough to have found a nice phiddipus audax in my kitchen after trying for quite some time to find one in the wild or order one online. Anyways, for the first couple of weeks it would just hang out on the walls of its enclosure with no webbing at all, but recently it built up quite...
There are mixed reviews on desert scorpions and death feigning beetles, some say they are fine and some say the beetles stress the scorpions out.
As far as plants go, if you go that route I'd say put the plants into a pot and then put that into a hole you make into the substrate. If you use...
I tried a dubia roach a few months ago. It was tolerable but nothing that I would get a craving for. I used an adult male (not best choice looking back on it), removed wings and legs and then pan fried it with soy sauce and sugar. I am sure I waaaaay overcooked it to be on safe side. The taste...
Sorry for the flood of questions but I am trying to get a thriving cleanup crew going for my dubia colonies and I just have so many question about it.
From the way that I understand it, dubia roaches, lesser mealworms and dermestid beetles are supposed to live together harmoniously where the...
