    I think I did a good thing..

I've been there, done that. I "rescued" an a.avic from a LPS. The poor dear had no substrate, no water, a tiny KK, and a light shining right in her face. I knew back then that it was a bad idea to buy from pet stores (in fact, one of their other tarantulas that day was already dead from...

    Nematodes

Thanks for the above post re: my question, Code. An update on Gypsy: as of last night, the white crust appears to be gone, I saw her drinking mist from the side of her tank, she's using her legs and pedipalps as normal. I'm pretty baffled because it looks like she's done a 180 between...

I love your pictures, all of them! The boehmei is to die for, she's just lovely. :) It's been mentioned a billion times already, but that molt display case is awesome. My tarantulas are a little more hesitant to cough up their molts, or at least not until they've mangled it to death.

    Nematodes

Similar Issue... I have an avic.avic. that just molted over the weekend, and over the past couple days I have noticed that she's acting funny. Sitting in weird positions, mostly her legs curled up or down or whatever, just sort of "sprawled" everywhere. She only uses a couple of her legs at a...

    First Scorpion!

Well if he's lived most of his life in nature he sure doesn't act like it! :D He's an energetic little guy right now. I didn't get a chance to get him a real hide yet (but there is a big chunk of cork bark in there), so maybe he's just looking for somewhere to hang out. When I was at the...

    First Scorpion!

Is "mature" a bad thing? Again, with tarantulas, a mature male usually doesn't last long. :( Well, if the worst happens and the poor fella is getting old, this show is around once a month so I'll pick up another scorpion (or two, they're pretty cool!!!) Thanks for your help!

    First Scorpion!

Its stinger area, the round part anyway, is reddish-brown. The lighting in my house isn't fantastic though so it could just be my eyes. His body is really neat in certain lighting though, sort of a greenish color rather than black. :) Hopefully I can get some good pics up soon!

    First Scorpion!

Please bear with me, this is my first scorpion... I just picked up a p. imperator from a nearby reptile show. I'm 99% certain it's male after checking out sexing pics online and comparing them to my guy. I can't remember the exact names of the organs and such but they match the male picture...

WHOA! Bad molt out of nowhere please help!

I don't want to thread hijack but I just lost my b. boehmei female to a bad molt last Monday. I have no idea what went wrong; full water dish all the time, I even misted about every other day knowing that she was nearing a molt, and yet she got stuck. Looked like her fangs were still stuck and...

    Can someone help identify?

Hmm, well the one above (the black one in the pic I posted earlier) isn't exactly like what I saw, but it's really darn close. I think the only real difference is that my bug seemed a heck of a lot smaller than that dung beetle. I suppose it could have been a juvenile(?) - I'm not familiar...

    Can someone help identify?

I've been doing my best to figure out which are native to Indiana, and I'm not having any luck. Also, is it unusual to find them on a park bench? I wasn't anywhere near a farm that I'm aware of, though the area where the wedding reception was at was kind of out in the middle of nowhere. Would...

    Can someone help identify?

Yeah sorry, after posting I realized that link didn't work so I posted a pic. I'm gonna check out the dung beetle family and see if I can't identify the little guy. He was just so cute, I'll feel kind of dumb if I didn't know I was holding a dung beetle...lol

    Can someone help identify?

Definitely wasn't one of those. I guess this could have been a beetle, though it didn't really look like one. The "horn" on this one was on the very top of its head and stuck up in the air, not out in front. It sort of resembled this: The horn wasn't quite so long and thin, though, and...

    Can someone help identify?

I didn't have a camera on me so I'm going to explain this the best I can. I was in southern Indiana over the weekend and saw the cutest little bug, I'm not sure what it was. At first glance, it would have reminded you of a tiny hercules beetle. It had a singular horn coming off of the top of...

I'm now the proud owner of a *drumroll please* G rosea

This is a sort of bad picture (I was playing with macro on my camera) but you can still see the pink on her. Her name's Sedona :) http://insectgeeks.com/user/gallery/view/id_833/name_Truff135/

That's a VERY good-looking avic!!! They usually aren't that vivid (the ones I've seen, anyway). :)
