I ran a search but didn't want to weed through 5 12-page discussions on the differences of the two. Has anything conclusive been determined while I've been gone, as far as differences go?
My A. seemani molted yesterday (A girl! Woohoo!) and now she's a strange gray/blue. Most likely the BCF...
My 3" H. lividum passed last week, and today I discovered my 3/4" A. chacoana dead. I'm not sure what's going on. I think I need to downsize, but I don't want to ship Ts and no one is buying locally.
I saw little specks stuck to a piece of tape I had over the slots to keep the sub in on my A...
What on Earth! I guess if she's anything like your T I'll peek in there one day a week from now and she will have molted! I hope that's the case. I've been expecting her to molt for months.
I love my roaches. I take out my big ones and let them run around every once in a while. I always feel guilty feeding them off.
Once my cats ransacked the colony (totally my fault; went to bed and forgot I left the lid unlatched) and I woke up to find half the colony missing. I nearly cried.
I had a cobalt that was left a little too dry and went into a death curl. I got it in an ICU and it's been fine since.
Yesterday morning the cobalt flipped onto its back and I left it alone assuming it was molting and would run its course.
As of this evening the T is still flipped onto...
For some reason, whenever I'm being introduced, it's always mentioned that I have a ton of tarantulas. It's mostly awkward. People tend to ask a lot of questions, ask why I keep them, if they're in containers, if I hold them, etc.
It kind of becomes your identity. If everyone on your office...
I'm 19 and currently in the process of buying my own home. I moved out and started renting when I turned 18. I work full time. I get to keep as many tarantulas as I want, much to my boyfriend's dismay. The saying stands: You can't judge a book by its cover or a person by his/her age.
All right, it's in a legitimate ICU at this point. It was responding to being prodded in the direction I was prodding for, which is a good sign. Fingers crossed that this works.
Of course. My biggest issue is moving the T. It's put itself in a weird location within its container where I wouldn't be able to get to it without risk of it falling or me crushing it. I have moistened (see also: soaked) the sub and put the T in the bathroom, covered, with the shower on hot and...
It is moving very occasionally, but not in any cohesive or hope-giving manner. Just a feeble movement of legs that looks like what a T does when it's cleaning its mouth.
It's about 3.5". There is a water dish in there but it kept burying it so I gave up on it and just sprayed enough water in the tank for it to pool up a little bit in its burrow. And of course it's not IN the shower. I have the shower on to make it warm and humid in the bathroom.
I got a call from Katy Green sharing with me a hilarious anecdote from the P. ornata breeding chronicles which inspired me to take a gander at my Ts. I noticed something bizarre.
First I noticed that my H. lividum was out of its burrow for the first time EVER. Then I noticed that it was in a...
It definitely is a lot easier on my bank account, not buying a new bunch of Ts every few weeks. I'm just concerned for my Ts' wellbeing. Especially my younger ones. Due to the fact that my Ts are not constantly on my mind, I find that I'm not as motivated to make a special trip out for feeders...
Ever since I got back from my trip to Europe in September I feel like my interest in my tarantulas has dropped significantly. I'm still fascinated by them and don't want to get rid of any of them, but it seems like my routines have been disrupted (we also rearranged my house) which is causing me...
