mine has been in premolt and fasting since i got it. it ate maybe a couple times then stopped. it’s been about a year now. just continue to give water and wait it out
Are her legs moving at all? Usually they make small movements when they’re molting. She seems like she has some size on her, sometimes they take longer as they grow, but that’s still a long time to be in that state.
I just had a similar experience yesterday when I bought an S. calceatum at the pet shop. She’s in bad shape with a missing leg and small abdomen. I thought the same- get her before some idiot buys her not knowing the respect she commands, and before she dies in this pet store. I don’t even know...
What species is this? Looks pretty dry in there. All species molt better with extra water in the enclosure, like an overfilled water dish. And I can’t tell if that’s the molt coming off the abdomen or not.
Everyone is forgetting about M. balfouri! Love my juvie. They’re a fast terrestrial OW and may not be beginner friendly for that reason, but their care is relatively simple and they love to web up the enclosure. Definitely more forgiving than H. pulchripes or any chilobrachys sp.
I see those ones all the time on the container store’s website for food storage and stuff. I think I might try an amac box like what @viper69 showed with his A. huriana, except add more substrate and flip it the other way. Thanks for the suggestions and great ideas. It helps a lot, this is my...
That’s hilarious. I have also seen a lot of enclosures that look like they have no rhyme or reason as to where the vent holes go. And what you explained/modeled there is pretty much exactly what I did. After more thought I added holes on the top lid and two rows on the bottom near the substrate...
Oh wow that’s a big upgrade. And I did just end up putting it in the dram right after I sent my last message. Rehousing was slightly stressful but actually worked well. I used a cup with poking holes and a bobby pin and it pretty much teleported into its new home. You can half see here, not a...
Horrible view there but you can kind of see the legs. I just tried to measure and it is around an inch. I’ll probably have to rehouse it again in the near future, but I just wanted to get it in something with vertical space and decoration, it’s constantly at the top of that tiny deli cup meant...
Okay, great. And I hate to keep replying, but any comments on my t. violaceus sling’s next house. It’s a small sling but just molted and is going from this little deli cup (that i got it in) to this bigger 50 dram vial. I’m scared I may have put too many vent holes in this one now...
Wow! That’s a great collection. I have B. boehmei, T. albopilosus, B. hamorii, T. violaceus, and now A. Avic and G. Pulchra. I have yet to get any old worlds as you can see lol.
Just a filled water dish that spilled over and made part of the substrate moist. I have not misted her at all. I did...
Thanks so much. She’s already webbed so much and is very active. Next I’m rehousing t. violaceus :/ your dumpy is adorable btw!
Thanks! Welcome. There’s so much to learn here, it’s a great space. Do you have a large collection?
So, I know the key point for avics is to not let their enclosure stuff up and provide a lot of ventilation. I measured this one’s DLS and it’s just over 1.5”. Should I add some more vent holes on her enclosure? Two sides have 3 rows of holes. Should I do all 4? I’ve just been filling her water...
Okay, first of all the one video is t. violaceus, so you may be looking at that. Second, the picture of the irminia sling you linked is what I was talking about when I said “black with little orange (tan you could say) feet.” Am I going crazy here? As slings they are black with tan-tipped...
I looked for pinhead crickets and tiny red runners, but nowhere near me sold either, even at the expos, so that’s why I used cricket legs. Thanks for the help.
That’s what I did. Just made sure it didn’t dry out pretty much, but not overdoing it. Literally using drops of water. And that’s what I said in the original post, that I felt it was off from the start- lethargic, not eating, and certainly not a fast, crazy sling like everyone says. That’s a...
I know that slings look different from adults.
This one was kept in a rather terrestrial setup, the way I bought it, with what looked like vermiculite, but I added some “Lugarti” substrate to allow for better burrowing if it pleased. It had a fake flower petal in there as well. There were some...
