    Careers in Entomology

I'm not sure if there is already a thread like this one, but I'm curious about uncommon jobs that one can do as an entomologist. For example, would it be possible to become certified as an entomologist or biologist and visit public places like schools and talk about an animal and/or its...

    Feeding wild birds.

European starlings and finches are huge invasive species here in the US. They destroy bluebird nests, and they are legal to kill (though I don't kill them myself). I think they are both beautiful birds, though, especially the bright spots on starlings. All of these birds are so gorgeous! I...

    True spider ID

Hello! This winter has been very mild for where I am and I have been seeing a lot of spiders. This big (probably 3 cm or so) guy/gal was on my doorstep, and its orange color caught my eye. It looks like a wolf spider to me but it could be something else (I need to study more). Photo was taken...

What is the strangest insect you’ve found?

(sorry, the pictures are probably really blurry) In the summer I like scouring my pond for hemipterids. I have found multiple toe biter naiads and this water scorpion in the genus ranatra- I have also found a monarch butterfly with a wing that was deformed in the crysallis- And, on a...

Sorry, as I said, new to sexing. It's a Tliltocatl albopilosum, and the entire molted abdomen is about 3 cm long and the shown part is about 2 cm wide.

    Tliltocatl albopilosus [molt sexing]

I know, terrible quality and I ripped the molt. First sexing :) Is this decipherable?

Weird tunnels in G. portentosa bark

Hello, all! Recently I put a piece of bark that I had sterilized in the freezer into one of my hissing cockroach tanks. I checked on them today and noticed new tunnels that had been burrowed into the bark. A bunch of grainy stuff, probably poop or chewed material, fell out. I also saw one tiny...

    Brachypelma Albopilosum - Beginner Help!!

Moving it around a lot might have stressed him/her, but the setup looks good. A bare spot just means they've been flicking hairs (probably just onto the ground) and is not unnatural. I also have a B albo and he is always in that position, so no worries. I'd say just let your T settle in for a...
