One trick I have found for handling a T whose first reaction to you is to strike:
I will use tongs to gently touch one of her front legs. She'll usually strike at those or go into threat display. After a few strikes, she'll decide that whatever is bothering her is not reacting to her...
nice... I'm pretty sure my big lp is male, so I'm glad he'll have a lot of life left when he matures.... I love these spiders. I think they're often underrated because they're so common, and not blue.
Ah... gotcha.
Yeah... I'm totally on the lookout for these spiders too. I had a couple females, and some slings that I got from josh_r. We moved, and I didn't realize how much more sunlight our new spider room got than our old one. On the first day that the temperatures got into the...
It's an all female grunge-metal band from the mid-90s. Pretty sure the original poster was just trying to demonstrate how much the new female regalis rocks with this reference.
Could be wrong though. I prefer Bikini Kill or Sleater-Kinney.
Huh?
I mean, I'm glad you resurrected this thread, because I really want an update on everyone's Calisoga projects.... but huh? What are you talking about?
Anyway, how's everyone's breeding project going? I really want to pick up some slings at some point. I miss my Calisogas. Hope you...
G Pulchripes, from my experience, varies greatly in temperament from individual to individual. Mine is perfectly handleable. My girlfriend's is a beast though.
Anastasia is the one to go to. She bred them. I've got 2 that I got from her, but they're smaller than the one that you (malevolentrobot) are currently keeping.
I can't really offer any better advice than you have. Sounds like your experience with them is pretty similar to mine. I've...
I'm gonna suggest that pretty much any Avic sold at a local pet store as just "pink toe" at a price that is reasonable enough to buy it without knowing exactly what it is, is most like A. avic.
I'll put it out there that if your tarantula isn't out in 42 hours, it's most likely stuck. Heck, I've never had a T take more than 24 hours to get out, and not die as a result.
In my experience, if you see your spider flipped over and ready to molt one morning, and its still in the same...
Another interesting aspect of this article, especially for us, as keepers...
The article mentions that spiders are also picky eaters, and careful to take in a balanced diet. What are the implications for us, as keepers, who usually feed our collections on a limited number of feeder insects...
Gotta vote Holothele "NDS" as the ugliest tarantula I own. Not that it's exceptionally ugly, but if I came across it in the wild, I'd just assume it was some big gangly true spider. And it acts like one too. It's like having a pet Dolomedes... fast and flighty, but not really tarantula-like...
While I agree that P irminia is prettier... my H mac is way more interesting. Also can't recommend a parahybana enough. These are two of my favorite Ts in my collection (and I have kept, or am keeping the other ones you mentioned).
Congrats on the 2 moths. I'm at 11 months right now... but...
:clap::clap::clap:
I love these spiders. Unfortunately, my last longitarsus just passed. I still have a theventi that is thriving. I'll be looking forward to your breeding. Don't know if you know josh_r, but he as bred these before. I got my slings from him. They are super slow growers.
I'd have to say... I think the most punk rock spider would have to be of the horned baboon variety... considering how many spikes my clothing had during my punk days.
