Happens in my h. something tank all the time. Just put a waterdish in a corner. The pinheads will drown by the dozens. Or just leave them and pick them out as they get bigger.
You have a habit of phrasing everything you post as if it is a fact from God that applies to all cases across all time, but that simply isn't the case. My scorpion has exhibited burrowing behavior throughout different moisture and environmental settings. Just because it is generally true that...
This may be true in a general sense, but it is definitely not always the case. My Heterometrus sp. Has a deep burrow (~12'/30cm) that extends to the bottom of the substrate and continues on. I would certainly call it a burrow and not a den.
What exactly do you mean by "too spacy"? There aren't really any other hides than what can be clearly seen in the photo, but the slot under the log is just barely big enough for the scorpion to fit. It was smaller when I initially set up the enclosure, but he shaped it to the way it currently...
What do you think? The pictures are at ~75 days grown in. The plants are mostly doing well and expanding rapidly. I think I might need something more on the left near the sphagnum moss.
The scorpion seems happy and healthy. He has a burrow under the log that is ~12in./30cm long and he is now...
Spinifer also generally has a white (while juvenile) or brown (while mature) telson similar to a pandinus imperator. The telson on this individual appears to match the body. I would lean towards petersii.
I meant to say that you make sure the light is not shining inside the hides.
Peat moss is not a problem, but it will break down much quicker than the other substrate components. I recommend avoiding it in the future. Pure sphagnum moss, in a long, stringy brick, is really cheap. If you look at...
What is "forest moss"? Peat moss?
I would add some sand to keep the substrate from collapsing in your scorpion's burrow. Sand adds a wonderful amount of firmness and body to the substrate. Sphagnum moss really helps with humidity, but yoh can also put a layer of sphagnum on one half of the tank...
Is your tank already set up? I strongly recommend a charcoal layer between the gravel and substrate.
What is your substrate composed of? I use 1 part coco fiber, 1 park coco bark (they don't sell orchid bark where I live, but that would be better), 1 part finely crushed charcoal, 2 parts dry...
I'm hoping that the waste from the cleanup crew will take care of the fertilization for a good while, but they are not properly established yet. I'll probably need an interim solution of some sort until they are more prolific.
Not the OP, but I use a clay ball false bottom to allow drainage and maintain humidity. I also have charcoal in the soil and a charcoal layer between the substrate and the false bottom to help with water filtration.
I have an LED light to facilitate plant growth. I positioned the light so that...
My ASF tank is fully planted. He has crushed some of the plants, stripped leaves off a few more, and used one of the Pothos as a ladder to escape his enclosure 20 minutes after I put him in. Other than that, everything seems hunky dory. He spends time hiding under the various leaves and seems...
I have wanted a scorpion since I was a kid and I finally got my first one this weekend! It's a heterometrus sp., but I have no idea about the species. I live in Japan, so I'm not sure what species is most commonly sold here. Any ideas?
