My A. Chalcodes was a crazy hair kicker when I got her. After some time she has pretty much given up that habit. She is pretty docile, but can sometimes be fast. If you do handle her do it low to the ground and over carpet. I have noticed that all my T’s have different moods after molts, or...
I have nine T’s and about 55 dubias (best guess). I haven’t had to buy feeders for around a month now which is nice. Even if the colony gets delpleted at some point my feeder cost is very low. We have a rabbit also, so they share some of the same food.
An Avic was my first T. I have trained Toni to take Dubias right from the tongs. I rub his/her leg with the Dubia and very slowly Toni takes the Dubia. Toni can be very fast and is occasionally held, but is very calm in its enclosure. I don’t hold often, but I do it so I’m not paranoid when...
If you want a cage that will last forever try Showcase cages. Downside is they are not good for high humidity species and you need to add substrate and decorations to make sure that your T doesn’t fall. That being said,I have four Jamie’s cages and they are awesome. Humidity is very easy to...
Mine has done very well with warm side temps of 85-90 and cool side temps of 75-80. I use a radiant panel, uth, and a ceramic emitter. My house can get cold. They are all on light dimmers.
All my T’s now like Dubias. My Avic will even take them directly from the tongs. The upside is they are clean, won’t breed in your house, and won’t hurt a molting spider. Been through crickets and hornworms- never again. Actually hornworms are fun, but they grow way too fast.
I agree I would never let anyone tell me to get rid of my T’s. Fortunately everyone in my house is comfortable with them. If someday I leave the country, get sick, etc. then I hope my son will care for them, but I’d make sure they had good homes. Some of them even cost more than dogs and I...
The two species are kept completely different. GBB are better kept on the dry side and Avics like things a bit more humid. My Avic is very docile and takes dubias right from the tongs. My GBB is also a voracious eater and a prolific webber, but is a bit more skittish. Either way look at...
I have to use supplemental heat as my room often goes into the 50’s. A space heater is not practical as the room is 500 ft with vaulted ceilings. That being said my T’s all seem happy and healthy. I do monitor temperatures a couple of times a day just to be on the safe side.
I’d say my Grammostola Pulchripes is my friendliest. Goldie is almost always out in the open, is an awesome eater, and will sit in your hand forever if that is what you want.
A 4 inch Avic was my first tarantula about 3 months ago. Toni/Tony has not been sexed yet as he/she molted while we were on vacation. She ( I’m optimistic) has become one of my favorites . A little fast when she wants to be, but shows no aggression. Recently she comes down and takes Dubias...
Dave at Theinvertshop gave me one for free with my Aphonopelma Chalcodes female. At first I did not even realize it was in the box, but now “redrump” has his/her own Jamie’s Tarantula enclosure.
I have an 8x8x14 Jamie’s cage for mine too. My house is also cold on occasion so a few of my spiders are in my Boa’s cage a 5 foot Showcase cage. I was already heating it and I have the temperature and humidity dialed in pretty good. The boa gets along with the T’s as does my ball python.
