Chip finally surfaced again after being MIA for the past few weeks. She’s climbing around and seems active, but her exoskeleton has a spotted or mottled appearance that wasn’t there before. Doesn’t look too healthy to this newbie... The substrate doesn’t seem too moist, and her friend Dip seems...
Only if she had the chance to mate with the male in the short time before he passed... (I’m going to keep that enclosure misted on the off chance there’s eggs in there.) My ivories are both female too, so I’ll need to find everyone boyfriends soon. ;)
Thank you... :sorry: The female is active and goes bonkers for gecko food when I offer it! She’s much more defensive than my two Ivories - she flinches and curls up a lot, something I never see my Ivories do. They’re definitely much more social, but I’m just happy that she seems to be doing okay.
Still starting out, but my Ivories seem very happy with a base of Creature Soil, with rotting wood, leaf litter, sphagnum and a hint of coco fiber added. I think mine’s close to about 1/2 soil and 1/3 leaves/wood?
I’ve been misting every other day just in case he’s hanging in there. I had been misting lightly every day due to the screen top on the enclosure, but I noticed mites around his back end and decided to cut back a bit. Just misted again before taking the picture. He might be a tad darker, but...
Well, it’s been a week and still no change and no smell. Enclosure just smells like dirt. Should I continue to leave him be? Do dead millipedes always stink?
Thank you for the input! They didn’t have a ton of substrate as the enclosure was meant to be short term, so I’m hoping that’s why part of him is still exposed. Crossing my fingers that he’s partially curled up and I just can’t tell, but I’m planning for the worst. The female was out and about...
My two N. americanus made it home to me this week. They were purchased in a LPS in Arizona last month, and my mom drove them home to Wisconsin. Both were pretty banged up from the beginning, especially the male. He was moving around and eating when I got him on Wednesday, but yesterday I noticed...
Thank you, sounds good! That’s what I was thinking/hoping, but I’m still newer to millipedes and wanted a more experienced opinion. I do know that she’s been eating readily, and that her substrate will be changed out in the next couple of days to be safe. :)
Ok, I just want to hear your thoughts. My mom just picked up a pair of N. americanus for me while she’s out of town. The male seems fine, but she noticed that the female has some damage once she was back from the pet store. I’m guessing that the pet store didn’t have much experience with millies...
I started out a few months ago with Florida Ivories. Mine are fairly active on the surface, which I heard is pretty common for them compared to other millies, so they might be a good option if you want to see yours more often. They’re pretty hardy too.
