Maybe this Emp just doesn't like you :) jk. But seriously, I've had plenty of emps. Some attack at the slightest provocation, some are all sorts of chill. I like the ones that pinch at their own shadows.
I agree with AzJohn. There used to be way more to choose from. I tried breeding a few of the more uncommon ones with limited success, but I was rather new to the whole breeding thing when species were plentiful, so I wasn't much help (I did manage to get a few Longimanus and P Cavi's out there...
Yeah, anyway you slice it, the pickings are slim anywhere I've looked and it's kinda lame. Less than 2 years ago there were plenty of scorps to choose from from multiple dealers all over the US. Take a look at the classfieds now, you see barely anything. It really blows. If anyone knows of...
Isopods are generally opportunistic feeders. Especially the one's that are quick and do not roll into balls (i.e. the "rolly pollies"). That means a freshly molted 1st or 2nd instar is at risk. From what I've read on these boards, the "rolly polies" are the safest to have in your cage if you...
Yeah, it really sucks. I definately agree that price pushes breeders towards tarantulas, but I'm not crazy about T's. There used to be way more scorps available that at present. It's hard to even find someone sellin P cavi's These days, and that just plain blows. And what makes even less...
Is it just me or are there way less sellers of scorpions and species available in recent years? Everytime I check the classifieds, the pickings are all sorts of slim. What the hell happened? There's tons of spiders and T's. I think I see more variety in pedes than scorps and that used to not...
I'm honestly starting to dream about a colony of monster Emperor scorps. Not these friggin mini-me's we have over in the states either. I'm talking about the ones pushing 9 inches taking down tigers in the Congo.
It could be a molt that didn't have a chance to harden all the way. How fresh was that kill when the picture was taken mrbonzai?
From the size it seems you're mommy dwarfed that other scorp. Even worse if it was a fresh molt cause that means it was way smaller before. Prolly shouldn't a...
My late Male Emp "Beast" was like that. He died of old age (presumably). The only scorp I had that ever earned a name (a buddy gave it to him when he attacked him/freaked-him-out through the glass of the cage).
Beast would even snap at mist froma water bottle..with feeling. The new...
Interesting subject, but I've never understood what the big deal with mycosis is. It's just a fungal infection. And for me, it's only been an issue if it's been untreated for ages and the scorp starts to loose limbs. Aside from that, when you see some mycosis, you toss some antifungal cream...
I've been looking for ages (looking for exceptionally large Emperors is why) and seen tons of listings with prices. You can find decent sized emps anywhere on these boards for between $8 - $20 per adult (usually cheaper if you're getting 3 or more).
I agree that $15 is the most I would...
For the record, the pump for the exoterra waterfall (which is actually placed in the waterfall) is pretty much silent. If there are vibrations from it, the scopions do not exhibit any behavior that suggests it. They crawl all over it like any other object in their enclosure and take a drink...
Not my question Michiel, my question was on this:
Do you mean to say that captive bred scorps generally do not get as large as their parents were? or that something about being bred in captivity means the scorp doesn't get as large as it would have in the wild? Because that would suck...
a thin strip of ducktape (or two) under the lid-flap, above the tube that is sticking in the critter keeper, aught to keep them from squeezing out of that little hole by the hinge of the lid. Add make sure the top is closed all the way.
