I actually paid a buddy to do it this year as I'm over 50k holes melted myself at this point. Still though, I like to wash them after and that takes some time.
On today's episode of So You Want To Breed Tarantulas Ehh?
A little under 200 new sling delis @ 49 holes melted per which is about halfway through what I'll likely need this year in 5.5oz delis. Then I need to start on the 200 2oz delis I'm hoping I'll need......
Maturity can best be judged by size for the species and the darkening of the spermatheca. You can make a guess with one piece of the puzzle, but both are better. Without knowing the species or size, my guess is the same as @cold blood, this female isn't mature yet. The spermatheca will be much...
To expand on this, a clarifying question (ie I've dove into the depths of the AB archives and I have a question about this post and what it means) will almost always be met with a clarifying answer and a bit of amazement you did the research prior. A question that's been asked and answered 5...

Male on the left, female on the right. Notice the body language of the larger female post pairing. I believe there is an actual scientific term for this behavior that's escaping me, but basically she's rubbing her...
Thanks lol. I'm actually quite limited on the pictures I can take as most of my adults are in semi-opaque Sterilite totes. They're perfect as enclosures in every way except crystal clear visibility. I see most of the gorgeous adults every night as well, just hard to get a good picture through...
The roach colonies? They're 103 qt. Black Weathertight Totes with Wheels from The Container Store, SKU 10077444. A tote, catch cup, and some tongs is where I started out too ;) .
Took some pictures tonight as I walked around the collection with a flashlight, doing the nightly checks.
Fresh MM Aphonopelma sp Dragoons. He's going to be putting in some work this week.
Unsexed Orphnaecus dichromatus. Really hoping this one is a male, but then again I wouldn't be too...
Sneak peek of v3, now condensed and on wheels. Still have a few things on order, a few things still to be found, and a few things still to build. I'll get into the nitty gritty once I'm completely satisfied with the project, but I'm already seeing significant improvements in the time it takes...
Even in more temperate species, I'm not convinced that it's a requirement either. They'll tell you when they're ready to breed by their molt cycle which does seem to be synched up to the climate where they're being kept. What's required once paired IME is stability of parameters in an ideal...
In reality, the only thing you can do is just be aware it's a possibility and be proactive about identifying and mitigating potential contamination vectors.
Time studies, as boring as that sounds ;) . My collection is finally large enough that I figured I waste too much time bringing the enclosures to my husbandry station and it would be waaaaaay more efficient to bring the husbandry station to the enclosures. I'll elaborate more on how I've chosen...
There are a lot of genera that average less than 200 at most with most breeders typically seeing less than 100. Just stay away from anything that begins with Grammostola, Aphonopelma, Lasiodora, Brachypelma, or Tliltocatl.
I've already spent enough on tarantulas this year..... I've already spent enough on tarantulas this year..... I've already spent enough on tarantulas this year......
Yes, she also has WAAAY more blue in her legs and her abdomen has an absolutely stunning iridescence that can only be appreciated in person (the camera just captures it as a white sheen).
I've only ever taken one pic of one of my MF in natural light. It was through a catch cup, so not the best...
