people have an innate fear of snakes, spiders, etc... in an ancestral environment it would have been advantageous to be afraid of things like these because they did pose a threat. however, our landscape has changed but the irrational fears have stayed with us - which is why some people in the...
must haves depend on what you're looking for in a T and moreover, if you are a genus completist, etc...
I choose Ts based on their habits and temperament. that said, I buy Ts which dont web too much; stay out in the open the majority of the time; eat a lot; and reach a good size. Over the...
I'm not sure if this has been researched yet, but...
in some organisms, environmental factors (e.g., mate availability, temperature, etc.) contribute to the sex of the organism. is the sex of a tarantula predetermined from birth, or something that develops later on as a result of environmental...
Ive had 4 a. metallica and havent lost one... you need to understand that ventilation is more important than humidity i.e., dont compromise ventilation for the sake of having high humidity... I have them in acrylic displays as well... if you want to know how many holes is ideal - A LOT - but...
if you look closely, youll see two retractable claws that come out of each of their feet. that's probably what's causing you the discomfort, not necessarily the hairs.
Humidity is important, but not as important as good ventilation. A way to keep it more humid is to not have so many holes in a t's enclosure. However, if there is always condensation inside, that means it is much too humid. I mist my t's about once a week. I keep the substrate moist enough so...
You mean the type of psychological component that may trigger a fight or flight response?
Inverts have brains and Im sure those brains have the psychological components necessary to trigger a fight or flight response. Furthermore, what is your particular definition of a psychological...
This is a funny thread... Not "ha ha" funny, but funny in the sense that so many important facts are being grossly overlooked...
I think most everyone here would agree that pain is a relatively subjective experience. As humans we experience both mental pain and physical pain. The degree to...
exactly which is why I said the price. sure youll see rose hairs and pink toes in "proper enclosures" but youll rarely see a goliath or anything else an enclosure which also doubles as its "take home" container... of course Im not going to buy a t in a take home container that has mites, mold...
price... most shops get the average customer and so they often charge two to three times more than what you might pay a T dealer... before I knew of invertebrate websites, I was astounded to see anything but a pink toe or rose hair in a pet store, and I probably would have paid top dollar back...
ah, but everyone needs to fee their T at least ONE mouse... Personally, I find it excessive and messy, but as they say, curiousity killed the cat - well in this case curiousity will kill a mouse... Spoiler Alert - the mouse dies (gasp)
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you'll probably need a relatively tall, well-ventilated enclosure... You'll probably also need some good bedding (e.g., bed-a-beast, peat moss, vermic, etc.), a large piece of cork bark, and a water bowl.
yeah, sounds like a fire hazard to me... good idea, but I wouldnt leave it on if someone wasnt there to monitor it...
