Oh she bolted out of her enclosure and I caught her thankfully! Then made the mistake of signing in relief too close to her. She bolted up my arm so fast I think my soul left my body!
I have held them a few times but only because they have seen the open enclosure and thought “let’s go on an adventure!” So it wasn’t voluntary. And the threat posture wasn’t very threatening if that makes sense. More like startled at the worm touching them.
the issue with space is the reason I...
I’ve gotten the web cocoon before and I’ve even gotten threat posture when trying to feed a worm and I guess they didn’t like the worm that day. I chucked it up to being a moody teenager lol
I will definitely try those!
I’ll have to keep a lookout when they come out of hiding to look at the pedipalps and front legs. So far don’t see any sign of a sperm web. But thanks everyone for the help! I’m not as concerned anymore
I e been crushing the head so they still move about a wee bit. I just looked and they’re hiding so I can’t take a picture of the underside. Really hope they’re not a MM, and I’ll still try feeding them periodically, and if they don’t eat I’ll assume MM.
They’re “rump” is very plump so I wasn’t to too concerned. I have been killing the mealworms before feeding but I will try switching it up. I didn’t want the critters roaming around the enclosure and possibly harming them
I really hope they’re not a male 😭!
I can try but they like to hide and...
Very lucky I catch her (I’m hoping it’s female!) drinking water. And she’s by no means slow because she literally bolts around the enclosure at the slightest breath on her.
So I’ve had my caribena versicolor for less than 2 years now (could be wrong I’m horrid with time) and I would say they’re juvenile now. So I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I’m not sure if they’re (not sure if male/female yet) just not hungry or doesn’t like mealworms...
The cup/enclosure is tall cause it’s a To-go coffee cup. I have plenty of ventilation, I made sure of that.
I’m not sure whag happened. It molted, I got very excited, came back and soemthing was wrong with the fang chelicerae, wouldn’t eat, then did the death curl and died.
I’m not sure the size of the cup. IF I had to guess its likely a 16oz to go plastic cup from where I work. So far there is slight moment. So I’m taking that as a good sign and just hope nothing else happens.
Roger that! That I did know lol
I believe mine died from a bad molt, but that’s just my theory. I’m also thinking of rehousing into a slightly smaller container (the one I have know is kinda large) but don’t know what to use.
Thank you all! I actually had to email the company I got it from because it wasn’t DOA but once into the enclosure it looks dead and doesn’t move. So I’m hoping it’s “playing dead” and not actually dead. I don’t want to have this bad of a luck with my second spiderling
i just got my spiderling today and I know all about the feeding and such, my question is should I wait a day or to for it to get over the shock of travel or try feeding it Now? I can’t remember.
Just an update:
I checked my sling just now and it has died. I did everything right I think. I believe it just had a bad molt and I didn’t catch it in time to try and help it
