I don't see the problem as long as they warn customers or only sell to experienced people. I manage a store and we carry old worlds and new worlds, but we very actively warn and discourage new keepers from buying advanced species.
I think it's important to note that the Lacey Act and USFW cracking down on Brazillian imports WAAAAY pre-dates the T. Seladonia fiasco.
IMO, this is more of a problem similar to C. "minax" which isn't really C. minax at all in the hobby, but some form of C. albostriatium or another...
Everything went very well. After a few days of discussion I ordered 5x balfouri and John sent me 2 K. brunnipes slings for free.
Well packaged and John kept me updated even through AB going down.
10/10
Yeah I definitely wouldn't try that. Mine isnt as bolty as my larger Poecilotheria, but is definitely much quicker to threat posture and bite. It's about as close to a crackhead with 8 legs as I've seen.
I bought the same species from them as a female, mine is incredibly photosensitive and never comes out during the day. If she's caught out when my lights come on in the morning, she sits in the corner in a stress pose until they turn off.
In a perfect world, sure. But this is with a beginner keeper, who wants to handle their spider. We can disagree with that all we want, but I doubt it will do much to sway them. Obesity leads to an easily punctured abdomen from a less than perfect setup, and can be much easier to rupture in the...
I'm not 100% confident, but basing that this is a person who is very likely new to the hobby, and Petco very commonly sells G. iheringi or actaeon under the exact name, I just made a connection. Most people with questions like this are not getting them from reputable breeders, and likely got...
It is more than likely G. iheringi, as that is what PetCo is selling as "Brazillian black wooly tarantulas."
Don't power feed it like that, and don't expect to handle it.
I purchased this on Friday the 31st and it was shipped Monday the 3rd. I received the 4th and unfortunately FedEx decided to play soccer with the package, so I received the first female dead. This was no fault of Tangled's, yet he was kind enough to send me another female for only half the price...
The beetle poses a much bigger threat than actually scaring the T. You could have done it WHILE it was molting and it would still be the smart choice. They aren't going to die of fright, even while molting.
You're right. But I'm not advocating for someone to power feed every single day. I just disagreed with putting them on a strict weekly feeding regiment. I feed my slings as needed, when they'll eat. If they don't want to eat, I just pull the feeder.
You can't overfeed slings, their entire purpose is to get big enough to survive. Obviously you don't continue that until adulthood, but a strict feeding schedule will only increase the time it takes for your sling to grow.
