My sling only hangs out at the top of the enclosure, how can I improve the enclosure to make it more appealing?

If my bbg you mean GBB (C. cyaneoubuesencs) you do not want moist substrate. This is an arid species, meaning the substrate should be bone dry. The fact that mold is forming indicates that there is way too much moisture for this species. I raised mine from sling to now subadult on bone dry...

Why are thinks so expensive in Canada

Depends on where you are shopping. My local pet supply store often has tarantulas that are very overpriced, for example I saw a P. cambridgei big sling/small juvie for $80. The 10G aquarium's however are more reasonable (about $20) Reputable dealers/breeders such as Tarantula Canada and...

    Who molted today?

It's a happy day when my B. auratum molts! This is the fourth molt since I acquired it as a 1/4 inch sling 2018-09-01. Slow grower to say the least. Although this time around the size increase actually significant! The red looks like it's starting to come in on the patella! 🙂🙂

    Amazon Sapphire Pink Toe

This is anecdotal of course, but my Y. diversipes is the only Avicularinae (subfamily including Avicularia, Caribeba, Ybyrapora and I think others) out of 4 to have given me a threat pose.... and its only a juvenile. It has also been the most skittish during rehousing. I care for all my...

    Newby keeper

Slow growing species, such as B. bohemi, can go a surprising amount of time without food. I've had a 1/2 B. auratum sling go over 200 days without a meal. Your sling looks very plump, it will be good without food until it molts. It looks like the abdomen may be starting to darken up, so a molt...

    Project: Second Tarantula...Need ideas

    A. chalcodes: incredibly slow growing. I have a 1/2 inch specimen which is currently 6 months into its molt cycle. A. purpurea: beautiful species, but a bit hard to come by (and the price reflects this), quite slow growing for an Avicularia. More fragile than some other Avic slings; a good...

    heavy webbers?

I've got both N. incei and GBB. For my specimens, N. incei easily outwebs the GBB. As far as arboreals go, my T. rasti has been a surprisingly heavy webber. It's still a sling/juvenile, so I don't know if this behavior will change as it ages.

What T did you Score on?

I'd say Tapinauchenius rasti sling for $15. It's pretty much the only species that I've seen go for significantly more on American sites (50 USD), so it felt like a small victory. :) I've been totally impressed with it's beauty, webbing and feeding response.

    A. Purpurea or C. Diversipes?

I have a juvenile A. pupurea female, and she is growing very slowly compared to my other Avicularinae. A bit more skittish than some others, but still gorgeous and one of my collection favorites. Y. Diversipes is also beautiful. I definitely agree with the above comments regarding...

Finally got a tapinacheus violaceous. Setup ok?

Personally, I would not go with the inverted amac setup for a Tapinauchenius. Like Psalmopeous sp., the ones I am raising have built dirt curtain homes / webs that go down to substrate level. When I disturb them, they go down into their dirt curtain tunnels, not up. Having an inverted setup...

    New Keeper - Sling Question

The swollen and dark abdomen often comes when the molt is imminent. The premolt / fasting period can start much earlier. I've had a Brachypelma sling (1/2 inch) go 200 days without food; at a certain point they just dont want any more until they molt. As mentioned, pictures would be good to...

    Painfully slow-medium growth species?

The slowest growing I have experienced would be my Brachypelma auratum, hands down. I got it 15 months ago at 1/4 inch. It is now 3/4 inch and has only molted 3 times (the third being very recently). At 1/2 inch it had a 228 day molt cycle and didn't eat for 200 days. My pulchra sling feels...

    Any New Additions?

Picked up a few new additions (slings) not too long ago at the expo; Psalmopoeus cambridgei, Avicularia merianae, Ceratogyrus meridionalis. Brings my total to 25, which is the arbitrary limit I set for myself. Time to sit back and watch 'em all grow. :)

For those looking for reference; I just checked a molt of this specimen and it is indeed a female.

    User Sillver's Tarantula Pictures

Interesting that it's missing that classic Avicularia avicularia red patterned abdomen! Maybe this "morphotype" could wind up being a different species once more taxonomic investigation is done? Now I regret not getting one, hahaha... I was considering it, but no longer on Tarantula Canada's...

Kinda Urgent... Tarantula acting out of character

Doesn't seem like you have anything to worry about. Spider looks plump, possibly beginning to enter early pre-molt; its totally normal for it to not be interested in eating. I have had spiders much smaller than that go months without eating. Spiders can mess around with their enclosure out of...

Cyriopagopus sp. Hati Hati- Have I bitten off more than I can chew?

I don't think swapping for another OW arboreal will help your situation at all... they are all incredibly agile and fast. B. albopilosum (curly hair) on the other hand is an excellent spider for beginners and experts alike! Best of luck, hope it all works out.

Comment by 'Drizzliz' in media 'Morelia spilota cheynei'

@RezonantVoid Actually, now that I think of it, I have heard of potential problems with the jungle/jaguar types. Jaguar being a gene that come from coastal carpet pythons (a different subspecies of Morelia spilota) with known neurotic issues, akin to spider ball pythons. These jungle/jags are...

Comment by 'Drizzliz' in media 'Morelia spilota cheynei'

@RezonantVoid Interesting, I had not heard that... really unfortunate. Luckily I don't think mine would be considered "high yellow"... already about 20 months old; most high yellows are really much more highlighter like at this point. Fingers crossed!
