    My inverts.

Perhaps genetic abnormalities? They are bred as colonies, correct? If so, maybe the general lack of new water in the pool is creating some adverse effects?

Is anyone really good at ID-ing Praying Mantis Nymphs?

Don't they require a lot of rough surfaces because they have a hard time sticking to surfaces like most mantises?
  3. The Seraph

What is the strangest insect you’ve found?

Either a woodlouse spider back in Colorado or mountain leeches when I went to Japan. Those are the strangest invertebrates. As for actual insects, the scorpion fly back in Kanagawa was freaky.

    Xmas cactus

Them some sundews in the background?!
  5. The Seraph

    Meet Typhon. My new pup.

How about we team up; I rate it sad, you rate it funny?
  6. The Seraph

Bug ID. Found inside my truck. 6 legs

Don't worry, it is still a nymph. Probably not much it could do to you.
  7. The Seraph

What to do with extra mealworms?

You could give them to birds, though there might not be any this time of year. You could always eat them yourself. Heard they are good protein.

    Tarantulas on Ceramics

Ooh, is this that thing where you have black clay and paint it with white slip and then carve out the slip when it is leather hard?
  9. The Seraph

Do you think tarantulas are sentient? Why/why not?

Yes. All animals are sentient as all animals can perceive things and think, even if to a marginal degree. When I say think, I mean "have the capacity to react to stimuli based on the firing of neurons." Based on this general and technically correct opinion, tarantulas are indeed sentient. As are...

    loam soil

Loam is 40% sand, 40% silt and 20% clay. Liam is great for retaining nutrients and water.
  11. The Seraph

Systematic revision of Brachypelma, new genus described.

Oh, I do not speak any language but English. I even suck at that! I just find it easy and fun to pick up odd sounds and just make nonsense songs of them. Thank you ten years of speech therapy for making me know more about my tongue that I have ever wanted to know. Also, dl is new! Interesting...

    Why do you like tarantulas?

I find them to be beautiful beyond compare, just like all arthropods. I just look upon them and my heart is filled with joy immeasurable. They are my only consistent source for this feeling.

    Cringy tarantula videos

Poor things. Also, there are captions, at least for me. You are not missing anything important.

tliil-TOE-kahtlh. I can get behind that. I do not find the tl to be difficult. Just say kl, but instead of keeping your tongue stiff and pushing/pulling down, slightly arch your tongue down, making almost a bowl, and lightly snap down. Try it with clap, clan and clout. EDIT: Also think of it as...

    Help me learn about tarantulas!

This right here is a good place to start. Also, look at the stickies threads. Very helpful.
  16. The Seraph

Fascinating! Hopefully you can figure out how to get it in here. Maybe download it and then replied it? Finally, umbrella is pronounced Om-brella? I always said umbella.

Wow, I was not aware there are so few Cherokee speakers. There are 170,000 Navajo who speak Diné at home, but they are in some danger due to how often they have to speak English. There are many revitalization efforts though. Agreed with the sentiment that it is not gone though! Hopefully it can...

Interesting. Also, just realized there are more Nahuatl speakers than there are Native speakers in the USA. Over three times as many indigenous speakers and over five times the amount of Diné speakers, the most widely Native language here.

Centipedes and climate change: will they survive?

Regarding the slash and burn farming you mentioned; it is indeed incredibly devastating and happens very frequently in the Amazon. Entire swathes of trees are burned down to make land for farms. Worst of all, the soul is very infertile and that means they will just have to burn more forest again...
  20. The Seraph

Systematic revision of Brachypelma, new genus described.

Agreed. Like saying that you can put Basque in a Spanish translator and it will be identical. I'm sure almost none of us are saying it correctly. A large part of it arises from the fact we have no sounds like that and so our alphabet does not have a character for it and we must make do with our...
