I tried flea powder for my carpets and that didn't seem to have much effect. Just putting Frontline on my cats didn't work either. Finally, I moved all my Ts into my office at work, put Frontline on my cats, and flea bombed my house. That did the trick. I think my cats were picking up adult...
I've mentioned this previously, but if you want to increase air circulation while maintaining humidity, there is a solution. Get an aquarium pump, a bubble stone, some tubing, and a cup. Fill the cup with water, put it in the cage, attach the bubble stone to the tubing and put the stone in the...
Lasiodora,
Great looking female and interesting photos.
I have a captive-bred sling who feeds regularly on crickets and cockroaches. However, I have an adult female who drives me crazy because she's such a picky eater. She used to eat cockroaches but she's gone off them. I've tried...
Since anacondas eat South American crocodiles, it seems unlikely that a large constrictor would suffer internal damage from an alligator's ridges.

I just saw this in the news, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/4296398.stm. Partial clip follows:
<'Spider 'is 20 million years old'
Palaeontologist Dr David Penney, of the University of Manchester, found the 4cm long by 2cm wide fossil during a visit to a museum in the...
There's a lot of variation in personality but I'd recommend an avic species. I own adult A. metallica, A. purpurea, A. minatrix, A. versicolor and A. aurantiaca. The minatrix tends to hide all the time but the others come out and show themselves. They tended to hide during the day until they...
Currently, my entire collection (40 Ts, 2 centipedes and a cageful of feeder cockroaches) is sitting in my office at work. We had to bug bomb our house for fleas.

I didn't want to start up a whole new thread so I'm dredging up this one.
My mature male P. metallica makes a hell of a racket drumming at night, sometimes early in the evening but primarily late at night. I have him in my bedroom and he woke me up and drummed on and off for an hour or more...
Ts never seem to follow your expectations. Most owners say to their Ts at least once, "Stop that! You're not behaving right!" That's part of the fascination with the hobby.

The only problem with large hissers is that their exoskeleton can be hard for the T to pierce with their fangs. I usually pre-kill the roaches then present them belly-side up to the T. No broken fangs that way.

There's a lot of personality variation in Ts. Most of the suggestions are good but you might get a shyer than normal specimen or one that's webbier than you'd like.

They are expected to live more than 30 years but that's just speculation. I've noticed that there's some variation in temperament and they may change as they grow in size. It's pretty hilarious to be threatened by a 1" sling.

I'm not so sure who would win. There was a second-hand story posted on the boards (yeah, I know, not so reliable) that Pokies prey upon scorpions in the wild. Terrestrial T vs. scorpion may not favor the T but arborial T vs. scorpion may be a different story since the arborial T can stay out...
The real question is: Can the escapees make it in the wild? It just doesn't matter if you lose a tropical species if you live in Alaska. (Except for your emotional attachment to the pet, of course.) I've kept exotics for more than 20 years and I've had a few permanent escapees but never any...
Most of the yes arguments are giving extreme examples. Granted, an arachnophobe with life-threatening medical problems _could_ catch a glimpse of a T and die from the adrenalin rush, but, really, blaming the T is quite a stretch. Even given the example where someone with a very serious heart...
I did a search but couldn't find a recommendation. Does anyone have a suggestion for a way to order vermiculite on-line? Ever since that idiocy over asbestos, finding vermiculite has been a real pain in the hiney. I live in a dinky town that's beyond any civilized society so I can't get...
I'd try different prey items, if possible. IME, Ts will show some food preferences at different stages of their lives. Given the value of this particular species, trying out a few different food items is well worth the trouble.

My son named an A. versicolor sling Bill because "it looked like a Bill". I named my other versicolor sling Bill Jr. They both turned out female, of course. I still call them the Bills.
