My First Rehouse - Did I do it wrong?

I'll keep this in mind for next time. I looked in on the T today and its back to climbing up walls and around the cork bark. It is my first attempt at rehouse and I remember hearing that Avics and Versi should never be on the ground so I just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the replies.

My First Rehouse - Did I do it wrong?

I just rehoused a C. Versi and now its sitting on the bottom of the new enclosure. I've heard that these T's shouldn't be on the ground. Is this a matter of concern or is it likely still getting used to the new space? I just rehoused it a few hours ago. Attached is a pic of the enclosure...

    Is my sling molting?

Finally...I took your advice Cold Blood and offered a live cricket. The sling killed it but didn't eat it. I kept making sure it had water and left it alone as its abdomen looked plump. Last night the waiting paid off. When I checked the water in the enclosure, the tube Web looked very dense...

    Is my sling molting?

As an update... Still no molt. The sling is still moving around and constructing elaborate tube webs. I offered pre-killed prey two days ago and it wasn't interested so I removed it. I've made an effort to keep the water bowl full and dripped some water drops on the webbing and sides of the...

    Is my sling molting?

Umm... I left the sling alone for about a day and a half and when I checked again it was right side up and clinging to the glass. There is no sign of a shed exoskeleton. Was I mistaken in thinking that it was molting? It's still in the web that it made. I haven't moved or opened the container...

    Is my sling molting?

As above, is my sling molting? This sling is a C. versicolor that I got on October 14. I rehoused it immediately after acquiring it and it started making webs. I tried to feed it and it killed a mealworm but didn't appear to eat it. Now it's lying upside down in a web hammock. This is my...

    Please review my enclosure

Thank you all for your comments. I just looked at the package for the sub I bought. I thought it was coco fiber but turns out it was coco husk which appears to be completely different. D'oh. :banghead: I'll write that off as a rookie mistake. I'll see if I can find some new sub in the next...

    Please review my enclosure

I'm so excited. I just got my first tarantulas today. I've put together enclosures and I wondering if I could get an opinion on whether or not they are appropriate. The first is for a G. Pulchra. The second is for a C. Versi.

The OFFICIAL YouTube thread for tarantula care and husbandry channels

Actually watching YouTube videos is what made me want to get a tarantula. Before I didn't really understand the appeal in keeping one. The two channels that explained that appeal best were probably The Dark Den and Tarantulaguy1976 (RobC). I also like Bugsandstuff for the natural beauty of...

    Disturbing Article I found

The only thing good I found in the article is the RSPCA's advice to the public: “The RSPCA would always ask people who are struggling to cope to let us know. “We would also recommend that anyone interested in keeping a tarantula as a pet thoroughly researches the particular species’ needs...

    Can a tarantula become attached

Sorry for your loss. Maybe since you are spending more time in your room near the terrarium, you're noticing a wider range of behaviour from your T that you didn't notice before. Consensus seems to indicate that T's don't become attached to or "care" for their human keepers but people often...

    Avic Help!

It may be possible that the plant in the enclosure was treated with pesticide before it was purchased. Many plants sold in big box stores are treated with pesticide/insecticide which may cause problems for a T.

What do tarantulas do all night?

What do tarantulas do at night? The same thing they do every night. Try to take over the world! ;)

    Question about scientific names

Thanks for the answer, I'll keep it in mind while looking. Does "cf" stand for anything? My reading suggests it might mean "colour form", and this is a term that I have seen around. Should Ts stay differentiated by colour form as well?

    Question about scientific names

Hello I'm new here. I don't have any Ts yet but I'm doing some research before getting anything. Anyway I was considering getting an A. avicularia but I have some questions about the scientific names. From lurking around the board before joining, it's my understanding that purchasing by the...
