    "african red" centipede id

looks more like the ethmostigmus, it doesnt have a red head like the mortisans. Mone has reddish tails and pincers though, the pictures of ethmostigmus i found online didnt. I guess centipedes have different colour morphs though? This is my first giant centipede.

    A few newbie questions

1 no, just add water to the substrate. Dont flood the bottom even if the top looks dry though. put leaves and bark on top so it retains moisture 2 dog food or fish food for protein, for calcium you can use tums as well if you have any. 3 mine like cucumber, water melon rinds, squash, apple...

    Pseudopolydesmus and petaserpes care

I think snails and sprintails would play nice with the petaserpes, As long as I keep stuff like centipedes and isopods away I might be fine. Maybe I could just peel wet logs apart and only take the white mouldy bits. Especially the logs the millipedes are living in. Thats doesnt sound like a...

    Pseudopolydesmus and petaserpes care

I love millipedes but live in canada, so im limited to what i can collect. I collected some narceus americanus last summer, and they bred so well Ive started selling the juviniles off. I used topsoil, aspen/birch wood, and oak leaves. 2 other neat species ive seen near me are Pseudopolydesmus...

    Infertile egg sac dock spider

I caught a juvinile dock spider(Dolomedes tenebrosus) while helping an inlaw with their dock this fall. Was 1-1.5 inches. It has shed twice, its now 1.5-2 inches. Today i saw she is holding a phantom egg sac. Is it best to let her sit on it for the next few weeks, or remove it? How do i pull...

Phrynus whitei lost both whips in moult

Good news, I made a new enclosure, basically 1 inch of dirt substrate with foam(some guy down the street got a new tv) wall and roof. It loves the new foam wall. I could tell it could sense stuff moving nearby, cause it would retreat when i held crickets out to it with tweezers and they kicked...

    Self cleaning dubia newbie questions

thank you all for the advice. @l4nsky how exactly did it fail? Just how much waste do dubias produce? Scooping out half the substrate 2 twice a year wouldent be so bad, but once a month would be annoying. Also cant I just move them away from heat / feed less protein once the colony is at the...

    Self cleaning dubia newbie questions

I need a large feeder, so dubias are a natural choice. Never kept roaches of any kind before. I have millipedes, isopods, and mealworms though. I dont want to clean out their dry frass. I used to do this with superworms and dont want to go back. So I wanna try a wet deep substrate self...

Phrynus whitei lost both whips in moult

Legs and claws are all fine, just the whips are gone. If they didnt come out in the moult or it threw them away after i dont know. I am a noob at whipspiders so if theres something else wrong Im not sure. I got it from an exotics store for cheap, so obviously its wild caught. thats good news...

Phrynus whitei lost both whips in moult

    wood stove pellets for millipedes

2 questions: -are these stove pellets alright for millipedes(narceus americanus)? anyone here use something like this succesfully? says on the bag "not for consumption" "wood stoves only" "up to 5% softwood" and "no chemicals+additives" but idk if that matters. They are 1/5th the price of the...

Should I get an S. dehaani as my first giant centipede

Ive been interested in centipedes this last summer. I could find 3 native/naturalised species near me, Geophilus flavus, Lithobius forficatus, and Scutigera coleoptrata. I didnt keep any of them for very long though. Wouldent mind finding another house centipede, they are pretty cool. I asked...

    Corydalidae pupation in captivity

Yes im surprised too with how well its done with so little attention. The water is well oxygenated from the bubbler+there is a healthy layer of gunk, maybe the bacterial community is keeping the water quality acceptable. It just shed recently, thats why its on my mind. I just went and measured...

    Corydalidae pupation in captivity

I caught a Nigronia serricornis larvae at a local waterfall ~2 years ago. I have it in a gallon ice cream container with an air bubbler and a rock to squeeze under. It doesnt do much, and I feed it no more than once a month or so. Insect feeders, fish food, blood worms, that kind of thing. I...
