mealworms
Raise mealworms. Keep them in oatmeal, they will turn into darkling beatles, They will lay lots of eggs. 30 days you will have lots of little mealworms. Feed them a bit of carrot or any veggie.
vary your diet however. mealworms have little protein in comparison to other feeders...
I was able to cut some of the towel away while holding her in a cup.
She won't release the towel. she has her fangs holding it. I could only cut away about half. I will try again tomorrow.

She didn't lose her leg. She received a cut between her two lets on the left side. I originally thought she would lose the leg from the point she was losing liquid. I am unsure how the injury happened. She was cohabitating with the male for over a month. He is still fine.
Hope the pictures...
Now that I am aware of the situation, I have been watching her. She certainly has a sac in the towel.
She is trying to roll the towel. It is a dish towel.
Options....Cut the towel while separating her from the towel.
Try to get the sac out of the towel.
Let...
I bred my vagans this winter and I have been watching for the sac. I moved her tank and found she was protective of a towel I had in with her. I had the towel in with her after she lost a leg and was bleeding quite a bit. I had her in a smaller tank and moved the towel and all into a larger tank...
Well, either a stupid question or maybe it should be obvious...Anyone....I have 2 hrs til I either try now or take home and try tonight/tomorrow night.
thanks....
Scott
Has anyone found t's are more receptive to breeding in the day hours versus dark?
I am breeding vagans this weekend and I would much rather do it directly after school. My house isn't as warm as my classroom. I live about 30 minutes from where I teach and would rather do it here if daylight...
The kids came very calm. They are all familiar with the tarantulas, we have over 200 on our classroom and each has their own. Special thanks to Jim :)
They all got to watch as we were taping. He seems to be finishing up.
Thanks much,
Scott bloodletting
ok, my vagans is now making his sperm web, i am taping it and here is the problem/question...
i am a teacher, my kids come arrive in 15 minutes. will the vibrations and movement stop the male and if so, what will be the consequences?
I do have the option of taking them to another room...
Thanks much for the info. i will try to get a picture to post today if i can.
There is a bit of web. It is around and a bit on the inside of the hide. similar to what a molting hammock might look like.
it is not a hammock however since i put it into a new tank upon molting.
thanks again...
My vagans has been a mature male for about a month now. It has a small web around and in its hide but not an extensive web. Could this minimal amount be enough evidence that it is spinning its sperm web?
Thanks,
scott

It is after they have hardened. I have had the colony for over three years. I have watched thousands molt. It is just over the past couple of months this has been happening. You can see they have a strange look directly after molting. The wings just aren't straightening out.
Scott
My colony of b. dubia seems to be lacking something in their diet. As the males mature, their wings are shriveled and small. Are they lacking something in their diet that is causing this problem with the wings?
The colony is about 3 years old and this is the first time this has happened...
Yep, it is being taken care of. It is still moving. Not an upright molt. It is a sling and it has been like this for about a week now. It almost seems like a nervous system condition.
Scott
I have a b. albopilosum, 3/4 inch, it was in the death curl but its legs were still twitching. I put it aside to keep an eye on it. 5 days later, it is still curled slightly and twitching. It doesn't move around but its legs keep twitching. It is odd.
I have about 40 others from the same egg...
