I recently caught a large female wolf spider ( I could be wrong, she might be a grass spider), but I'm having trouble figuring out what specific species it is. Any help would be much appreciated. I live over in the mid-western US if that helps at all. She's approx. an inch in length.

Thanks for everyone’s replies! I changed out the carpet for regular paper towel for now and it seems to work well. My Leo’s basking area is now 90 degrees like it should be even with the paper towel over the area.

Unfortunately I can’t get any red runners where I live, in Florida most roaches are illegal for whatever reason. I guess if they get loose they could reproduce and disrupt the ecosystem? In the end I went with wax worms and tried some of those.

Yeah I haven’t been using it at all. I’ll have to look up scents that could be okay, but in the end maybe I’ll just stop using it or move it to a different area like you said.
