After two unsuccessful attempts over the last few days, I just managed to catch Jiji and put him in the temporary box. It didn't take long for him to start walking around again.
What I can now observe for the first time is that he begins to vibrate and drum. He hasn't done that before in his...
Jiji's beautiful exuvia is now in a frame and am very proud of the result.
I took advantage of the opportunity and bought one for Taru's as well, since I prepared and saved all of his exuviae. Unfortunately I never found the carapace after his first molt (no idea what he did with it), so...
Dear tarantula friends,
you haven't heard from me in a while, but I'm back today with special news: My beloved Jiji became a mature male a few days ago!
After 6 years of care and love he's finally an adult and I'm so proud of him (and myself for how far I've come as a beginner ^^). He...
Hello everyone!
I want to give you some updates again. :D
Jiji's weird behavior stopped a few days after I told you about it. A few weeks later he behaved like this again for 3 days. Both times I found a dead adult Dubia shortly afterwards and that made the cupboard, in which I store them...
@joossa
Thank you for your kind words and all your thoughts. :)
That's what I was thinking the whole time, but I still wanted to ask because it could be something else. But that seems the most logical.
In any case, I am reassured now. :)
I know tarantulas can behave differently after molting...
Dear tarantula friends,
I'm very worried about my two big ones, Jiji and Emmi.
Let me explain:
It has been a while since I was able to have a look at Emmis bottom. She was hanging on the glass doors. That was about a month after her molt and I spotted this bright spot on her.
Before her last...
Emmi did great with her molting and Taru also molted during my absence. My friend takes really great care of them when I'm away.
Especially with the extreme temperatures in summer, I'm always more worried. That's why I never stay away for vacation longer than a week in summer and a...
There is news again! :D
I could tell from the behavior of my darlings in the last few weeks that they would molt in the next weeks or months. Taru's abdomen was getting darker and he didn't want to eat anything. Jiji and Emmi didn't want to eat anything either - and my big girl is actually a...
Yesterday Taru also molted. He has the typical colors of B. albiceps now. Beautiful!
I also prepared his exuvia. Unfortunately, I couldn't check if he is really a male because she was too small for that. I'll have to wait for him to get bigger. :)
I fed Audrey for the first time today and...
It's too damp in there. You can see that on the steamed up glass. They only need a humidity around 50%. A hygrometer helps.
I recently finished the terrarium for my B. boehmei male and waited 2 months before I put him in. In this time it could get dry enough (a stable mix of excavator clay and...
Hello folks!
You haven't heard from me in a long time. Time to change that! A lot has happened in the meantime. With my T's, as well as in my life. So let's start. I have nice pictures for you again. ;)
Jiji has molted in May after covering the front doors with his hairs. I was very surprised...
I only feed my two (1.0 B. boehmei subadult and 0.1 B. emilia adult) so much that their abdomen isn't twice as big as the carapace. Often I don't have to feed them for 3-6 months if they get 2-3 adult dubias on 2-3 days (one each day).
