I have kept and bred the I. mira on dry substrate all year round. No problems encountered... I am actually trying to breed four second generation females now, so... goodluck to me. =)
THREAD QUESTION: Do lower temps delay egg development in sacs and incubators?
As a background I have bred several Poecilotheria species and have pulled out sacs containing eggs with legs inside. Here are my records:
Poecilotheria metallica, January sac - Day 21, EWLs + bad eggs...
Here's the thing. My Cyclosternum fasciatum curled up days after she laid a sac. Not sure what went wrong, she was fed and she had a water dish with her but she still went on. The weird thing about her is that she laid 13 months after she was paired. Anyone had the same experience? What...
I would try and do an introduction after I confirm the following:
1. the juvenile T.plumipes is indeed a sure female
2. the size of the juvenile is at 80% that of the MM
then again, its just me. Others may not do the same.
My friend passed the T on to another friend, and unfortunately the spider died of bad molt...
What I successfully bred was two normal-looking M. balfouris. So far the slings all look alike. No sign of any orange form in the batch.
I have had some "gold" colored form come out from a clutch of Holothele incei breeding. A friend had it too. As far as we call them, we just call them simply Holothele incei and Holothele incei "gold"
Thanks! as of now, I have already separated 50 striata slings, left some inside the incubator. As for the miranda slings, they are showing signs of premolt to L2 stage. After then I will separate them in vials too!
thanks, guys! The hainanum MM already made two successful inserts on the female, 1.5 weeks apart, each was done after MM made a sperm web.
As for the I. mira, well she dug herself a deep burrow and has stopped eating for the last 3 days. While the previous mating resulted to a successful...
well I already did that. Took out the ruptured baby T. The ones adjacent to it had mites jumping over them too. Well, I am not sure but this is what I did (in the absence of any past experience).
- replaced the tissue substrate of the incubator.
- one by one (using chopsticks), I took each...
I am incubating some Pocilotheria striata eggs with legs. I checked on one of the incubators last night to find one ruptured. upon closer investigation, I see some white mites attacking the poor babies...
Now the incubators were placed above our ref in order for them to enjoy the extra...
Here are some more pictures.
Idiothele mira # 2 - daughter of mommy mira. She's currently being bred.
Female haplopelma hainanum. Fresh after a molt. Will mate her soon with a friend's MM.
Female Augacephalus ezendami... just mated.
