Thank you so much, everyone! I was trying to figure out why she would be kicking hairs to this extent and then found the answer in my 7-month old kitten who keeps trying to stand on top of her terrarium to watch her. The kitten has now been exiled from the closet where the tarantulas live.
This is Aragog, my female L. striatipes. She's about 5 inches now, I think. I've had her for 2 years now and she's never had a mark like this on her abdomen before. She has a full water bowl 24/7, her coconut fiber isn't damp, there's no mites or mold, I clean her space regularly. She hasn't...
@Ungoliant I thought it was a flap, but now I'm not so sure and I have the physical thing with me. Here are some more pictures though: https://imgur.com/a/0uzsaiU and https://imgur.com/a/Ln9GPBb
It still looks like a flap to me but I'm very much an amateur, I just don't know even after hours of...
Sorry for how dark this is, the 8 LEDs on this little digital "microscope" arrived broken but let me get really close up to view. My guess is female, but wanted to confirm or be corrected by you guys.
@Nightstalker47 @ccTroi @Goopyguy56 Thank you guys, I'll definitely try to rescue the molt sooner for a clearer picture next time just to be absolutely sure but thank you for lending me your experience with her!
I figured this might be a shot in the dark because the area is damaged (little guy usually wrecks his molts) but can anyone experienced tell if male or female from this?
After seeing his collection and that he had a price sheet available on Instagram, I reached out and he very promptly sent his information. He was excellent with communication and within a half-hour of sending payment for the T, he had sent me the tracking number and the assurance that he would...
My b. vagans, Pidgey, rarely leaves his tunnel! From what I've watched of his excavation projects, he seems to web up chunks of substrate and then carries them away in little webby batches in his fangs.
My little trio of Ts are 3/4in, 2in, and 3in and they all love their prekilled offerings. My b. vagans is a particularly picky eater and has shown a preference for the easy prekilled over exerting effort for the ones live.
This board taught me one of the most important lessons that I've learned about keeping Ts: Tarantula knows best. I always remind myself of it whenever I see my Ts doing something that seems odd to me, definitely helps to prevent unnecessary worrying.
@Apestabrook I hope you post pictures when you get yours, I'd love to see it. I'm going to switch out their little hides, hopefully that'll help. Maybe the entrances were a little too big for their liking.
