I have heard that, so I’m sorry you haven’t.
Thank you for educating me differently. I only want to learn, not rip the heads off of other keepers. My opinion was wrong, I now see it differently.
Absolutely, which is exactly why people shouldn't handle their Ts. It does not benefit the animal and just causes unnecessary potential danger to the keeper, the people around and the hobby in general.
Having said that, I'd be more than happy to get a license and prove I was doing things...
I completely agree with what you're saying. It's probably too early for me to be trying to take part in some sort of meaningful conversation around this lol. There's two sides to it, you down-play it and as you say, risk billy big-balls thinking he can handle an OW T and end up with some pretty...
A word of caution, yes. But let’s not go around saying they’re able to kill people, as you said yourself, not enough research has been done. Until we know they’re capable of killing us, I wouldn’t say they’re medically significant. If your child got bitten, perhaps that’s a different story, but...
People shouldn’t be handling their Asian or African species and placing themselves in a position where they could be bitten. It shouldn’t matter what the toxicity level is, you should avoid being bitten from any species.
I agree, bites are much worse for the hobby. But I don’t think people...
I think as keepers, we should also try to be advocates for the hobby and those who go around stating, “I have a medically significant tarantula.” Don’t help the hobby become more mainstream and acceptable. I view it like a bee sting, if you’re allergic, yes it could cause problems. Other than...
I didn’t buy her or get her on purpose. My neighbour says, “I’ve got this and I don’t know what I’m doing with it. Had it months just sat there, could even be dead.” So I took her and tried to gain as much information I could and give her a happy ending. I didn’t get a pet without doing any...
I’m sad to say the little lady didn’t survive. I tried feeding her several times, tong feeding and leaving her in peace with her food, crickets, locusts, mealworms and a run runner but she refused it all and passed away under her rock.
She has however given me a new passion for inverts, so I’m...
@cold blood Some really good food for thought there actually, thank you :) encouraging webbing lower is a very good idea! I hadn’t thought of that.
It does look pretty firm @frankinthecity. Hopefully you don’t get anything webbed shut hehe. I like enclosures that you can take off the bottom...
I guess it depends how rigid the plastic is in the idea you posted @frankinthecity. I’d be worried if the plastic was too weak, it could overlap at the bit where it’s been cut and you have a potential escapee. I don’t know! Otherwise, I really like that and the deeper tub idea. I just don’t...
Hi all. I’m dealing with a Euathlus species - insert colour here - obsession at the minute.
I know the entire Euathlus genus is just a mess right now & I’ve just got myself a little Euathlus sp. Blue & Green. (When the snow let’s up in the UK, I’ll get them!)
I’ve been reading a few papers and...
Thank you @darkness975 and thank you @pannaking22 ! She’s doing a lot better and I don’t think mycosis is a worry anymore :) her joints look pretty good. She now has a nice enclosure with flat rocks and sand. She’s just a real sweetie. Thank you so much for all of your help!
