Several questions - G. pulchra doing a headstand, unique food source, appropriate lighting for T room

Thank you for the great response! My G. pulchra is back to a more normal pose these days so I suppose she was just waving her freak flag that day. Biggest reason I use cocofiber is the soil around here is mostly clay so it wouldn't be a great choice for my critters. Plus, me being an American...

Several questions - G. pulchra doing a headstand, unique food source, appropriate lighting for T room

Hi there. So I have a laundry list of questions that I figure I'd consolidate into one thread. First question: my ~3 year old G. pulchra is currently doing a headstand in the corner of her cage (see attached). I rehoused her to one of Jamie's Tarantula's adult terrestrial enclosures about a...

I keep going back and forth between male and female, but I am strongly hoping it's a girl! Thanks for your input. Next time she molts I'm hoping to finally determine the sex.

    C. versicolor lethargic ever since laying phantom egg sac

About 4 months ago my C. versicolor (approx. 2") laid a phantom egg sac. She was pretty covetous of it and kept it down in a hard-to-reach corner of her enclosure and spent most of her time wrapped around it. I was able to finally pull it about 2 months ago and ever since then she just seems...

Phantom egg sac - pull it or leave it?

My C. versicolor also laid a phantom egg sac a few days ago! She's been pretty protective of it so far so I'm leaving it in there for the time being. Poor gal is looking pretty thin though so I'll probably pull it in a week or so so we can get her eating again.

    User floraborabora's Tarantula Pictures

Just thought I'd post these here as I think it's pretty neat. She's still a little lady (maybe 2") so I'm surprised she put this out. She's pretty protective of it right now so I'm leaving it be for the time being.

    Sling Enclosure too big?

Hey all. I just recently acquired an H. pulchripes sling that I'm pretty excited about. He was listed as being around an inch but upon arrival is closer to 1/2". The enclosure I had set up is 4"x4"x5" and looks WAY too big for him. FWIW I have it filled more than halfway with coco fiber...

How much food is too much food?

I have a gorgeous juvie G. pulchra, Bea. I got her as a sling and she's probably.. eh, maybe 1.5-2" now with a nice big black booty. Anyhow she has a tendency to disappear into her substrate for about 1-2 months before reappearing DEMANDING food. So I feed her. And feed her. And... feed her...

    Can acrylic be too thick?

I mean he seems pretty confident he can make something of it - he volunteered to make one for me because he wants the practice so he can eventually build his own fishtank... but yeah I agree, 1/2" is super thick. He knows I want a door and all that and doesn't seem bothered. We shall see! If...

    Can acrylic be too thick?

I made an impulse purchase recently of a ~3" A. avic and currently she's living in the horizontal critter keeper I bought her in. Obviously I want to move her to an arboreal enclosure. My bf managed to score a pretty big sheet of acrylic on a job recently and said he'd make me a T enclosure...

    G. pulchra sling

Yup it's been stupid humid here for weeks so I guess that's why. I've only ever seen my versicolor at her water dish once and the GBB never. Now I'm all worried about mites though.

    G. pulchra sling

Ok... I will keep this in mind. I haven't been adding any moisture to the substrate of my C. versicolor and C. cyanopubescens sling enclosures, but my apartment stays relatively humid anyways so that might help. Thank you! On a side note I love my other two Ts. They couldn't be more...

    G. pulchra sling

Thank you everyone for all of the helpful information. Really appreciate the pics of people's habitats for the little guys too, that helps a lot. It looks like you keep the substrate pretty damp - I have typically been putting in a little water dish for my spiders... is that not preferable for...

    G. pulchra sling

I did a cursory search of G. pulchra sling and didn't find a load of info. I'm just curious to know about their personalities. I'm becoming a crack addict (except Ts are my drug of choice) and just nabbed a G. pulchra sling from Jamie's tarantulas. So far I've gathered they're good feeders...

2" GBB sling enclosure too big?

I'm still really new to the hobby but I think the purpose of dressing up the enclosure is to provide the T with anchor points for its webbing. I have a 3/4" GBB and he's already done quite a bit of webbing but he utilizes the cork and leaves I added into his habitat.

    Stressed out greenbottle spiderling

What is your purpose with this question? I'm new to the hobby, give me a break. Ohh, okay. Yes it did this dance for quite some time, it cracked me up. Thanks! :)

    Stressed out greenbottle spiderling

Dropped a roach in and Causa grabbed it immediately. Now he's proceeding to do some kind of weird pole dance up against some cork. What a strange creature.

    Stressed out greenbottle spiderling

Just an update, the little critter is now looking much more comfy in its new home. I'm going to try feeding it again tonight. Thanks for all the feedback!
