I am doing something similar LdLrLyChLd. But only with the egg cases. They seam to be fine also in relatively dry conditions. However, I am keeping the ootecas moist all the time.
Thank you very much for your answers.
I prefer B. lateralis cause I will used them mainly to feed my Assassin bugs. Therefore, I need something that trigs their chasing responce and does not borrow. Moreover, B. lateralis corpses are almost completely eaten by the clean up crew in the Assassin...
Hello everyone,
I am starting my Blatta lateralis colony. I have noticed that they smell quite bad because of the feces. I was thinking to add substrate (cocofiber, potting soil and sand) with a cleaning crew. For the latter I was thinking about springtails for sure with, maybe, isopods. I am a...
I am actually interested to know how long they will survive in a communal setup. I am thinking to do an experiment when I get the first generation. However, in case someone knows the answer before, I am glad to know.
Hello everyone,
I have few questions about when to separate the larvae from the communal setup for them to pupate. I picked the largest, but after two weeks some looked curved, but many, actually, shed their skin. What should I do? Put them back to grow more? Is there a more precise definition...
Yes, it does. I have a lot of babies now. I hope that I will get around 20 to adulthood. Unfortunately, inbreeding would be inevitable. Thank you very much for the info.
AntsCanada has actually a video in NewYork. You can find many queens during nuptial flights also in a big city. You could look for some tables where they show when different species will fly in your area (more or less accurate, but climate changes are messing with that too). After you find a...
You can wait for them to fly. You could also check the GANproject connected with AntsCanada. I believe you can get Ants delivered only with in the borders of your federal state in USA.
Another update. I see two very very small Platymeris. She was pregnant. I will see soon how they look like. Now they are too small to say anything.
By the way, I have seen from real some Platymeris biguttatus and some other normal Platymerys spec Mombo (now P. rhadamanthus) with orange spots...
If there was a stinging, I could not spot it unfortunately. I was in front of the terrarium, everything happened in a couple of seconds. After the "sounds" I spotted the bugs on the ground and few moving on the Styrofoam background. I guess it was stung anyway (although I dont see where). The...
I have checked in the morning (1h ago). Unfortunately it is dead. It had just eaten a cricket the day before, so its abdomen was very round. Maybe its being full was fatal because of the fall. I will check in the evening for either stung signs or exoskeleton rupture. With scrap you mean molt...
Hello guys,
something sad and strange happened. I just gave few crickets to my 11 members colony of Psytalla horrida (two aduls, few sub aduls, some middle one and 3 in the really fists instars).
One of the juvenile had just got a cricket. It was climbing on top of the Styrofoam of the exoterra...
Hello guys,
quick update. I asked Jörg Bernhardt whether he sold me the yellow spotted assassin bug in Hamm, but he was not.
However, I got from him few Psytalla horrida. He was extremely nice, I was very happy.
Moreover, I have found some eggs in the Platymeris spec. substrate. I hope they...
Hello everyone,
I have found this specimen under decaying wood along the river Elbe in Dresden, East Germany.
It was I.D. as a Polydesmid somewhere else.
They were around 10 mm long. I have a video where you could see more details, but I do not know how to upload it here.
Thank you,
Francesco
