Toothpick pointing to suspected flap. Molt at point of vent has opened. Is it possible the flap is just loose material because of the torn molt? Additional view. Toothpick behind suspected flap. http://arachnoboards.com/gallery/brachypelma-vagans-2-5.54882/#media

@MetalMan2004 Agreed. Book lungs look female to me, but that spot and the flatter vent... Idk. Pretty sure this little one is heading for a molt soon, so hopefully I can be sure then. I have an older molt picture of them on the gallery but it was small and inconclusive.

Was a struggle to spread and photograph. I don't have experience sexing molts this small. Thoughts?

    Gravid or Premolt? G porteri

She buried the egg sac shortly after my last update and I pulled it after a few days of her completely ignoring it. It was dry and it looked like she decided it was a dud shortly after laying the eggs because there was only a fine layer of webbing over them on one side. Like she started to cover...

    Gravid or Premolt? G porteri

Checked on her a few hours ago to find she rolled the dirtiest egg sac I've ever seen. She's rolling around a ball of dirt. I am a little stressed because there is a bit of moisture seeping from the sac and it doesn't look very good. I'm going to leave her be and see what comes of it.

    Gravid or Premolt? G porteri

Thank you, everyone, for your replies! She was indeed making a sac! Hopefully the rest of the process goes well. Some eggs were on a bit of thinner webbing and lost some moisture to the substrate. She's webbing the top now. I have gotten advice to move her to a warmer area of my room (80...

    Gravid or Premolt? G porteri

Update: She started eating again soon after I started this thread. It is now three months after pairing. She just refused food again for the first time on Monday. Yesterday she started digging out a round hollow in her sub. She's been webbing it all day. Is this possibly her laying? Or might she...

    Today in the Spider Room?

When your computer desk doubles as your spider feeding desk, sometimes complications arise, like me yesterday forgetting the B vagans molt I left by my keyboard and absentmindedly rubbing it between my fingers while reading an article. My pointer finger was itchy for the rest of the day... :dead:

Ever Lose a Friendship Over This Hobby?

I have a friend that has pretty bad arachnophobia. But she's still interested in all my spider stories. So I usually ask her if she feels like seeing a spider picture so she can prepare herself. She warmed up enough that she can admit my C versicolor is cute. Success! (x But over all, most of...

    Fat mature males?

I like my boys chunky. ;) :hilarious: My only MM is my G porteri in my profile pic. He has never had much of a feeding response for the two+ years he's been mature, but he's always had a good sized abdomen for a boy. He ate for the first time in months a few weeks ago, after his first pairing...

    Who molted today?

The last week of March was Molt Madness for my spiders! Since my last post, my P cambridgei and C versicolor shed their old clothes. And my MF G porteri went back to eating. So that means 5/9 of my tarantulas molted last week. Two are still in premolt. And my mature pair of Grammostola porteri...

    Who molted today?

My Saturday molting nightmare must have been prophetic! Here's an update... Sunday Acanthoscurria geniculata female juvenile molted. Tuesday Avicularia avicularia morphotype 6 male juvenile molted. Thursday Chromatopelma cyaneopubesens unsexed sling molted. Just entering premolt... B vagans...

    Gravid or Premolt? G porteri

Thank you much! What do you think might be the earliest she would produce a sac? Or the average for her species? Also, while I already have this thread, I'm going to ask a kind of newbie question for anyone reading... I've just never had this happen before. My roommate was a little careless...
