Can you handle a tarantula pre-molt?

With regards to the urticating (itchy) hairs of the tarantula, most tarantulas from the Americas (known as New World species) have these hairs. They can flick them in self defence but also can remove them in other cases, possibly to create a kind of ‘defensive barrier’ in their territory...

Oh no!! Is my tarantula dead??

My P.sazimai is around 4" and my experience is similar to Grym's. She likes her (shallow) burrow and is skittish but does sit out a bit more as time goes on; showing off her beautiful colours I'm thinking  Mine is also a good eater with fast takedowns! :vamp:

Is this webbing on the substrate?

I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in but from the second photo it looks as it could well be mould. The white parts being the filaments and the black dots visable (against the lighter wood) being the spores. The residual moisture could well have been enough for the fungus to propagate.

    Is my tarantula crazy?

Looks and sounds like it is being normal. Stop worrying! :)

Cora In Irish, there is a word "cora." It's not a name; it means "salmon weir." Not terribly poetic, I know! It's pronounced more like "curra." The name Cora was actually invented by James Fenimore Cooper for his novel "Last of the Mohicans"-- as such it has never been translated into Irish. JF...
