DLS - diagonal leg span - makes no sense. Convince me otherwise.

Time-tested way of the interweb is using a banana for scale. Why reinvent the wheel...

Please Help Give Me Confidence About This Sling

Generally speaking, they are pretty bulletproof... but slings require a bit more care then adults/juvis. Please post a few pics of the enclosure (deli-cup probably) and the sling. Peeps here will have stuff to work with :) (just noticed the topic you also have below (at this time) this one...

My first T is on its way!

Perfectly fine. I also keep some meal-worms in the fridge, if I run out of little lats for the slings...

    P. irminia tips?

One of the T's I would love to keep, but the speed that people describe freaks me out a bit. One day, one day maybe...

    New tarantulas

Glad to have you with us ; ) ... but be careful around here. Most members are a bunch of enablers that just make thing worse. That is beautiful girl you got there. The GBB is a must have if you like silk in the enclosure -- with a bit of NW spunk, colors and speed. Oh dear... seems I'm one of...

I agree, looks very much like my Hapalopus sp. Colombia. Mine just passed while molting :( ... but looked just like yours. Beautiful.

How lows it take for a spiderling to turn into a juvenile?p

OP, you didn't mention the Genus and not even the species... so I'll have to default back to the rule-book of "generic Tarantula keeping". That would be page 43, paragraph 3. If you are following along, it should take about 1 year, 2 months, 6 days and 34 min before it will be a Juvenile... at...

Ask your fiance to name your T's, get them invested. You might end up with a (female) T. Vagans named "Boris" at the start... but you are playing the long game after all. Also, that is a cute little pulchra, I got two of those about the same size. Mine love dragging around their water-dishes...

How do I know when it is time to rehouse my sling?

Unless you are having issue's doing maintenance, I would wait and see after the next molt. L.P's pickup a lot of size after each molt. In general, slings enjoy smaller enclosures, finding food more easily and feeling secure. @cold blood once posted a bit about this and I found this to be the...

    Patches on my Lasiodora parahybana

What's behind door/freebie #1? Don't they also have like really large egg sacs if I remember correctly? I do still love my L.P, big spider with nasty hairs and a good appetite. And up OP, yeah, they tend to kick (nasty) hairs and end up with bold spots. Makes it easier to spot when the are...

    Favorite New World Display Species

From my own experience "out in the open", and your wishlist. You should be set with the GBB. I love terrestrials with a bit of attitude, so you can't go wrong with a Phormictopus or Pamphobeteus, but you will have to pick the species yourself as it's a bloody rainbow of colors or "brown\black...

At how many Ts is starting feeder colony a good idea?

Actually, a while ago @mantisfan101 posted a photo of Blaberus giganteus that made me consider doing so. I find keeping roaches part of it all("the hobby" - triggering some people now ;)) and I enjoy keeping them, mostly as feeders, but do I love making sure the little buggers prosper till their...

At how many Ts is starting feeder colony a good idea?

Yeah I also been keeping Dubia's the last few weeks, giving them a chance, as I just can't get a decent amount of B.lats. The big eaters that depleted the runners just love a big dubia. Some just wont touch them. Including my somewhat "laid-back" A.F GBB, dislikes them for some reason. They can...

At how many Ts is starting feeder colony a good idea?

Population control is mostly temperature, higher temps more roaches. I keep mine around 70F (21C), bit to low maybe if you really want em to breed but it works for my needs. If you end up with to many, find someone who keeps chickens... or other keepers ;) edit: Duh, forgot easiest solution...

At how many Ts is starting feeder colony a good idea?

Roaches, first colony was Red Runners (Blatta lateralis), can't climb flat surfaces, don't fly and instead of burrowing when dropped into an enclosure ...they start running around. Often towards the big spider for some reason. Compared to crickets, in my experience at least, they are less...
