I just caught one in my house. What kinds of things should I put in the enclosure to help it build it's web? Should the enclosure have more height or ground space?
This is the enclosure. The sling is usually just chilling under the leaf. It buried itself a few days ago, so I'm expecting it to emerge after it molts. That's what it's done every time so far.
So I have a B vagans sling, about 3/4 inch. It's the only sling I have this small, and it's been doing very well so far. I've had it since it was 1/4 inch. I usually drip a little bit of water on the substrate to keep it a little moist, because I've read everywhere that slings need more moisture...
These are beautiful animals! I would love to get one someday if my boyfriend would let me. For now I'll just live vicariously through all the lovely pede owners out there like you .
My boyfriend doesn't like spiders. He deals with it for the most part. We've had a couple arguments about it though. I want to get more and he doesn't. We have been talking about moving in together, and he told me he doesn't want more than 10 tarantulas and one scorpion in the house. He is...
Well that's what I thought before she molted, because she was more on the brown side. This picture is shortly after her molt, and her color changed drastically, so I really wasn't sure...
Definitely get a space heater. Just something small in the area of the room that you have your T would be fine. Do not use a heat lamp, it will dry out your T. If you can't get a space heater, then get a heat mat. Place the enclosure inside a larger one and put the heat mat inside the wall of...
I like to watch my tarantulas when they do things I find interesting like grooming, eating, moving stuff around their enclosures, webbing...stuff like that. Maybe you could just stream when they actually move around?
I finally got a couple pictures . She's in her hide for the first time that I've ever seen. Also I want to mention the substrate is dry, the light just kinda makes it look wet.
Definitely way too big. Half that size would be sufficient. Also if that's a heat lamp, I would recommend getting rid of it. They can dehydrate and essentially "cook" a tarantula. Also, screen lids like that are unsafe, a tarantula can get their fangs and feet stuck in them.
I would rehouse in a smaller enclosure. Better safe than sorry. 10 gallon is too big for a T that size. Keep in mind they prefer smaller enclosures! It may seem small and cramped to you but for them it's cozy and secure. I made the same mistake with my first one, an A seemanni, and she was much...
I will as soon as I get home! I was in a rush and didn't have time to take pics before I left. I was hoping maybe someone could give me some ideas without pics in case I need to stop somewhere to pick anything up on the way home in the morning.
So after much consideration, I've decided to get 2 new Ts. I'm going to be moving soon, so once I get settled in I'm going to get a P metallica and a P irminia. I can't wait!
So I recently confiscated my friend's tarantula because she wasn't taking care of it and refused to do anything when I told her it was severely stressed out. She doesn't know what kind or sex, I believe it's an Aphonopelma female, not sure of the species. It's about 3", it's hard to tell for...
Hello everyone! I am new to arachnoboards, but have been reading forums for educational purposes for quite some time. My tarantula obsession started about a year and a half ago, and since then I've learned quite a lot through the web and my own experiences. So, I've decided it's time for my...
