My Hati has not exhibited particularly strange behaviors, but I’m wondering if what you’re describing is actually pretty normal... I definitely agree that your enclosure should have way more substrate and hiding material, mine preferred only burrowing at that stage. It wasn’t until it reached...
The Psalmopoeus irminia would be my next one I think, so beautiful and arboreals are fun!
I like jamiestarantulas.com sometimes they have good bundle prices and I’m a fan of her enclosures.
I usually find a few that I think are pretty (and available lol) and do a ton of research, it’s one of my...
So I’m about 7 years late to the discussion lol
but I came to write about the same thing. My large juvenile C. hati hati molted on Thursday, I fed and watered it yesterday (Monday) and I peek in today and it’s on its back, mid molt! That’s twice in one week. Thank god I had already ordered its...
I’ve heard there are a few species that begin their lives with instincts to burrow and then end up being arboreal around maturity.
I have a C. hati hati and it has grown very quickly and I’m a little bit worried about when to switch its enclosure to arboreal, will it have a hard time with a new...
i noticed mold growing quickly overnight a few nights ago, ordered a new enclosure and thought it would be okay for the few days it had to wait... in the meantime it molted and more mold grew, I’m worried about transferring my soft vulnerable T to its new home. Should i move forward and rehome...
Finally got hit with the barbs! Rehomed my quickly growing A. geniculata and was unable to deflect. Nasty nettle burn itch that kills, only made way worse by the fact I can’t see them to extract them! I almost wish I had been bitten instead lol
Any tricks or tips to make the burning go away...
Neat! I think it’s pretty cool that both sexes and also a variety of “ages” do it- what an interesting behavior! Thanks for all your input, “tapping” took me awhile to get to, it would have taken much more research lol
Took a minute but I found more forums where others have immature males or even immature females that tap! Thanks for your input, now i at least know that nothings wrong lol
Any updates?
Maybe if she’s having trouble moving you could gently nudge her to her water dish, she can’t drown if her abdomen is out given her lungs are in her abdomen. I recently had trouble with a tarantula post-molt who needed more liquid to redistribute its fluids to strengthen its legs. It...
I didn’t know they tap!
Okay, so either:
Tiger ornamental MM are much smaller than I can find info on,
Or I happen to have a runt or size outlier..
Or my juvenile has just developed that instinct early?
This is a horrible quality photo, but it will at least give you an idea why I’m very...
Its enclosure is fully acrylic with lots of small holes for ventilation. I believe it is either scratching at these holes or at the cork. Here’s the enclosure!
Those markings on plastic are webbing anchors not scratches on the plastic!
Just make sure there’s a full water dish for your trip and you’ll be fine! Some spiders take a lot longer to get comfortable and start eating, I’ve noticed they’re less hungry for a couple weeks after rehoming them. I’ve read about folks who’s spiders have fasted 8 months and survive. I’d say...
our bedroom is the best place to keep our tarantulas, and I’ve noticed that our pokie (tiger ornamental, large but not adult) makes so much noise at night, similar to a nocturnal rodent. It’s kind of patterned, about every ten minutes sounds like a bunch of chewing or gnawing of sorts. I’ve...
Thank you!
After drinking, it turned and sat for awhile, not curled up. Only hours later it’s crawling up the enclosure, I’m sure it’ll be in it’s web soon. What a freaking relief! I will heed all above advice, thanks for your time!
So, my Y. diversipes (1/2”) is dying and I’d like some suggestions. I had the same species die when I first started the hobby, and basically had everyone tell me my substrate was way too moist, even though it spent it’s last few hours immediately above water dish like it had sought it out.
My...
