wich prehistoric water inverts are still alive today

Triops are not true "living fossils". Scientists have found that the modern species are quite different from the ancient extinct species. They are still quite primitive, though. They can make great pets, just make sure to keep them separate to prevent cannibalization. Also try to separate out...

    Dream insect/invertebrate/arthropod?

You guys might get confused by the long list I'm about to barf out. Myrmecia sp. Polyrhachis dives Atta texana Trachymyrmex sp. Cyphomyrmex sp. Odontomachus sp. Pseudomyrmex sp. (any tree-hosted species) Mastotermes sp. Nasutitermes sp. Velvet worms (any species) Neohelix albolabris Narceus...

    Question for ant keepers

I'm not exactly sure, I just know that Termitat & Ward's sells workers (both have shipping permits). I think that Zootermopsis is less regulated because it requires PERFECT condition for nesting.

    Question for ant keepers

You can order Zootermopsis sp., which reaches a similar size. They don't have that many roach characteristics, but they are the only termite that can legally be shipped through states (as pseudo-workers, they molt into soldiers, secondary reproductives, or alates).

which is better-Tarantula VS Giant Centipede VS Vinegaroon VS Land Crab(s) VS Tiger Centipede VS Bai

Even though they aren't on the list, ants are the best. Semi-claustral queens are active, hardy, and easy to feed. A good place to start is at Formiculture.com If you got all of these invert ideas from Monster Bug Wars, please try not to have any of your pets fight. Its animal abuse at its...

    Hermit Crab I.D.

Purple claw hermit crab. They are the largest species (and the most common) in the hobby. I have no idea about the red eyes. Could've been mites.

    Meet Typhon. My new pup.

The people that say that dogs get uglier as they grow should read this thread. Their minds would change faster than I can say some random short word.

    Tiny Carpenter ant queen?

She looks like a very malnourished C. nearcticus black morph queen. Try to give her a ton of protein, if you haven't already.

    Good Vivarium-mates for Lepiodactylus lugubris

OK! I just need to find my macro lens. I'll try to add some pics after my midterm exam.

    Good Vivarium-mates for Lepiodactylus lugubris

I have a small species of springtails in the terrarium, and I was thinking about adding my prized colony of giant springtails (I reared it from three adults).

My Nylanderia sp. queen died the other day...

*schmiggle, the Floridians would be doing illegal business if they ship ants out of country and out of state :P* Nylanderia can be pretty common under stones in humid areas, just look for tiny (monomorium size and smaller) lasius-lookalike ants.

    Madagascan Day Gecko

I'd go for L. lugubris. They are very hard to handle, but they are small, require little to no lighting, and breed like mad. If you want a good gecko for handling, I would go for a Crested gecko. In my opinion, leopards get stressed too easily.

My Nylanderia sp. queen died the other day...

Aw, that stinks. I had a Nylanderia colony too, and it died because of stress (they stayed out of hibernation a bit too long).

    Good Vivarium-mates for Lepiodactylus lugubris

Hi! As a few of you may know, I recently bought a juvenile Mourning gecko. Her current terrarium, which is a bit small but has an extreme amount of extra space relative to her size. I was wondering if there are any small vertebrates/invertebrates that would do well with her. The terrarium is...

    Connectimyrmex's Roaches & Similar Insects

Unfortunately, my Ceuthophilus male died of old age today. I've recently been experimenting with aspen bedding as a termite food. I've learned that most dampened cellulose-based materials (cardboard, paper) serve as great termite foods. I wonder if Cryptocercus can eat different forms of...

    Connectimyrmex's Roaches & Similar Insects

Here's a journal on all of my roaches. NOTE: Termites technically are eusocial cockroaches. Also, I'll try to add pictures soon. GROMPHADORHINA PORTENTOSA 1 female adult (gravid), 1 male adult BLAPTICA DUBIA 1 female adult, 1 male adult, 27 or so young nymphs, 7 medium sized nymphs, and 2...

Baby animals that are cute but become ugly adults

In truth, humans are born "cute" and grow up to be ugly. To be even more truthful, humans are born ugly and stay ugly. All animals are cute throughout their lives except for those weird mites that stretch to potworm lengths. Also, I always thought of ant larvae as adorable, even though 99% of...

    Best Roaches for Planted Terrariums?

Thanks! I assumed that they could climb if they were anything like my Ectobius. My Ectobius also jump better than most of my crickets (even my Ceuthophilus!)
