    Crazy idea about breeding centipedes

I know that when they "milk" true spiders for their venom, they are put to sleep with CO2, and they are asleep from this for quite awhile. Maybe find out if CO2 works for centipedes as well, and you may have an easier time putting on those rubber tubes... Just a thought.

    Heperus sack

I caught a gravid L. Hesperus at my job site a few weeks ago that laid a sack in captivity. I let her tend to it for a while until it got real dark and then moved it to another container with wire mesh for the spiderlings webbing. Using some forceps I did a forced hatch on the eggsack and it...

    First Hesperus Eggsack

I did some searches on the various ways to raise a widow sack, but haven't been able to find any solid gestation times from egg to sling. I want to leave the sack with momma for as long as possible and then move it to another container before it hatches. I'm looking to get a half dozen or so...

    new pede (Scolopendra hardwickei )

Talk about a great pede for Halloween display. Damn that thing is gorgeous. One more thing... Could the chemicals in a permanent marker be harmful to a pede?

    Mactans or Hesperus?

I caught a widow in my front yard a few days ago, and after doing a little research I am a confused on the id of the species. I do not have a digital camera, otherwise I would post pics. The one I caught has a perfect red hourglass on the underside that fades into yellow at the points of the...

    Backyard mantis

I caught a little 2 1/2" green mantid in the backyard a couple days ago. After about 20 minutes of wrangling the little bugger I was able to get it to calm down and chill for a minute on my hand. I don't know a whole lot about mantids but they seem to have the brain capacity to be "tamed" and...

Help! Baby Tarantula became a prey !

I understand wanting to throw a little challenge for the T into the mix later on in its life, but you already had one close enough call. Putting him/her in that situation really only gives enjoyment to the owner who is watching the battle, not the T. You are much better off sticking to...

    A big huntsman

Oh wow, that is an amazingly beautiful huntsman. I wish our true spiders were large like that here in the states. It would be great to take care of one of those.

    Identify this spider for me??

That is a grass spider for sure, but I am not sure of the latin name. I used to grow these guys in my backyard when I was a kid. Great fun to feed. Drop an insect on the web and it'll dash out and drag it down its funnel. I remember them growing pretty darn fast too.

This is what I get for releasing a spider

Be very careful when dealing with law enforcement, they will twist your words and make you say things you don't mean. They are masters of deception and trickery.

    Giant Centipede Handling

Wow That is very cool dude. You were communicating with the pede in a way. Usually inverts just bite in my experience.

    Emperor Scorpion

I got a new emperor scorpion a month or so ago and I decided to clean his cage out yesterday. Given how easily I am distracted I cleaned it out, replaced the scorp and left the cage outside. I ended up going to bed and got up and left for work in the morning forgetting about the cage. It crossed...

    Fruit Flies

Are there fruit trees mixed up in the bunch outside your home? When they drop fruit, the flies come like crazy. I used to have 6 fruit trees in my backyard, and the flies appeared by the thousands when the fruit started to drop.
