    Texas Winter Storm Experience

Just wanted to update this thread to thank everyone who replied to my original post. I had read incorrect information on this forum about Archispirostreptus Gigas and the need for permits, and didn't have an understanding of what was necessary. I don't have any desire to spread false...

    AGB Change in Behavior

That’s totally reasonable. Unfortunately, nothing obvious has changed. I’d say the biggest change over the years has been that I’ve improved her heating and humidity conditions overall. Both parameters are much, much more consistent than they were when she was digging more often. Maybe the...

    AGB Change in Behavior

Hello everyone! I have a small question regarding my AGB. She's about four and half years old, and over time has gradually been digging less and less. I understand that, to an extent, this is natural as they become adults. However, it's at the point where she nearly never makes any tunnels. I...

    Texas Winter Storm Experience

Thank you everyone for your knowledge! I do believe these last few messages are correct! I'll be looking into the permit process. I definitely don't want to be spreading misinformation.

    Texas Winter Storm Experience

It's been a little while since I did my due-digging on this. I remember it being a bit of a cloudy process. Thank you for your input, I'll definitely do some more research.

I would love to see what you’re looking at regarding this. Anything I find that explicitly references this species has to do with importation.

    Texas Winter Storm Experience

Yeah, I’m amazed. She’s a real trooper. As far as keeping her legally, as far as I understand (and I sure hope I’m correct), they’re perfectly legal to own as long as they’re domestically bred. Their import was banned because of their commensal mites, which domestically bred millipedes don’t...

    Texas Winter Storm Experience

Before I get into any details, this is a happy post and a big thank you to Arachnoboards. Despite everything that happened a few weeks ago in Texas, and my house being without power for 5 days in freezing temperatures, my millipede (Marimba) is doing just fine. To give a brief timeline of the...

    Finding Ingredients for Millipede Substrate

So I've identified a compost that looks promising: https://www.arbico-organics.com/product/compost-plus-chitins/compost-worm-castings I called the company, and I was told that it consists of a lot of material from the beneficial insects they sell (including chitin and runoff of other sorts)...

    Finding Ingredients for Millipede Substrate

That's definitely what I'd like to do in the future, but I unfortunately didn't have the forethought this time around.

    Finding Ingredients for Millipede Substrate

Thanks for the reply! Do you have anything you look for in a general organic compost? Or anything you look to avoid? Manure is the big one that sticks out to me. It's not like they wouldn't come across manure in the wild, but my human brain feels like I should avoid it.

    Finding Ingredients for Millipede Substrate

Hey all, I'm currently making my own substrate for the first time, following @mickiem's recipe (you can find that here) Everything is going well—I've got a great source for oak leaves and rotting wood, coir, aspen, and traeger pellets are all easy to find, and I have some safe eggshells ready...

    Massive Springtail Bloom

They're identified as Folsomia candida on the Josh's Frogs listing, so hopefully no worries there. They are still going strong. My millipede doesn't generally seem mind them, but they have irritated her a time or two. I looked up their lifespan, and it looks to be 110 to 240 days! I'm hoping...

    Massive Springtail Bloom

Haha, so polite of them. I wasn't sure if they ate their dead or if they just stuck to other decay. That's great! They're pretty incredible to watch. In that case, I'll just let them reach some sort of stable point. I assume they'll decrease in number after they get a good first sweep of the...

    Massive Springtail Bloom

Hello everyone! A few weeks ago, I bought a springtail culture from Josh's frogs. My AGB (Marimba) had been having a little issue with (grain?) mites walking around on her. Thankfully I couldn't find any attached to her, but after seeing her flailing around, trying to scrape them off, I...

    Millipede Substrate Options

Thanks for the thoughts! I'm down in Texas, and I unfortunately can't seem to find a place to buy trustworthy organic leaf compost—even online. I also have no idea where I would get rotting wood. There's a greenbelt I take walks in from time to time, and while there's a good supply of rotting...

    Millipede Substrate Options

I did also notice that the Lugarti's mix doesn't have any mention of a calcium supplement. I haven't contacted them to make sure, but I would consider mixing in my own if I decide to go that route.

    Millipede Substrate Options

I know this is close to being a repeat of several other threads, but I'd like to collect some opinions on the pre-made substrate options there are out there. Me and my AGB are going to be moving houses, and I was planning on taking the opportunity to completely clean out her tank and replace...

    AGB Building Dome Structure

Thanks for the response! Hmm... interesting! I'm at least glad to see that it's relatively normal behavior. About what age would you call maturity in an AGB? Also, update: A few hours after making the post she had sealed the hole I made back up from the inside! I had no idea millipedes could...

    AGB Building Dome Structure

Hey everybody! So today I was pulling some uneaten spinach out of my AGB's enclosure when a little dime-sized patch of dirt fell through into a chamber my millipede had made. At that point I noticed that the dirt surrounding that area was much looser than the dirt around it, and was bulging...
