I also live in calgary and when I was looking around kinda last minute for a versi, I had an employee (apparently the only guy on who knew anything about Ts) from Pisces! of all places! Tell me a C. versicolor is extremely rare and hard to find! It took all the strength in me to not burst out...
See my versi is so polite! She mashes her crickets up into a little ball and leaves them just outside her web for me every time! Now she might be scared shitless (sometimes literally) by me and literally anything else within a kilometer of our house but she knows what spoons to use when!
Theres quite a few more holes in the sides than it looks like, she just set up shop on the side without any near the middle/top, I also made them quite small as I wasnt sure how large she was when I was making it and I wanted to air on the safe side. Probably 25ish~ total? A cluster on each side...
So my half inch lil baby versi hasn't eaten in about 2 weeks now and shes been getting more and more lethargic, and about five days ago she closed up the entrances to her web so I was like, "cool, her abdomen isnt that big but shes probably in premolt" But today shes out of her web wandering...
Congratulations! She looks great!! My little one decided the two days I'd be out of town this month would be the perfect time to seal off her web and go into premolt (typical:rolleyes:). Its a stressful process! But I'm glad your little one did well!
If you recognize its impulsive and you think it doesnt sound like a good idea I'd say you've already got your answer
Be patient, if you still want them in a month go for it
Tarantulas are adorable! Especially avicularia/ybyrapora/caribena with their cute foot pads and the way they exploratively flail while they walk. Even things like the way ts scoop up prey items then stand on their tippy toes is so adorable!! God and the fuzz!!!
Obviously this is all coming...
They're so cute!! I think the cup I have is probably a bit closer to what you've got in the second picture
Interesting! I haven't really looked into the specifics of breeding yet (although I'm very interested!!) I kinda assumed it would be mostly even year-round considering the mostly...
I'm glad my presumptions about myself aren't completely unfounded!
That makes sense! I've heard they usually prefer to drink off the side of their enclosures which is really the only reason I'd want to mist, but that seems like a much more direct solution.
Nice jars! How big are the babs in...
Not at all! From my understanding they need good verticality with lots of anchor points for their web, and a humid (but not *too* humid) enclosure with lots of ventilation and airflow. I've seen a lot of debate over water bowls and misting but I personally feel like an almost completely dry...
I've done plenty of reading over the past 6 or so months (mostly on this board, but also elsewhere online) and I'd say I'm well prepared! I also have a friend here in the city whose raised versicolors before and they've been helping me out over that same period with any questions I've had and...
