We have four cases to consider.
Adult, German Shepherd. => potential severe injury
Adult, OW => potential severe injury
Child, German Shepherd => potential severe injury or death
Child, OW => potential severe injury or death
Granted, there's no data available about actual fatalities of...
Idk about you but this whole topic keeps getting better and better :)
German Shepherds can kill infants, toddlers and other pets. They don't kill adults, not in statistically significant numbers anyway. OW's can hospitalize adults and, although there's (fortunately?) little or no data on...
I'm pretty sure everyone who does drugs would prefer they be legal so your argument kind of falls on its face.
In any case, getting a pet that can do as much damage as a German Shepherd and can ALSO hide behind furniture for months is a bad idea.
Yes but the 'locals' aren't eccentric AB members.
I'm imagining a bunch of T enthusiasts tramping around armed to the teeth with guns and catch-cups. It would be a good time.
Behavior-wise the H. incei is most interesting in my opinion. Great elaborate burrowers.
If you can get your hands on an A. geniculata sling even better. Mine started digging like crazy around the 1" mark, molt frequently, and are very enthusiastic eaters.
In the future, you might be better off looking for local sales for common T's like that. Of my 4 B. albo's, 3 were local craigslist/facebook finds.
No worries about shipping and it's much cheaper too.
If folks are a bit short with you ('acting like an ass' as you put it) it's because this same topic is posted pretty much every day and people act exactly the way you are now. You've read about their care, your tarantula is not thriving, and when someone directs you to better information you...
There are a couple Texas- and Austin-specific facebook groups I know of where people chat and buy/sell. There was a reptile show in Dripping Springs several months back that some local Facebook members got deals from also.
Sounds like an error on your part. 'Dry substrate' is pretty universal. If yours was damp enough long enough to kill your T's they wouldn't have just dropped dead all of a sudden.
????
The people you would have learned from are the ones on this thread telling you your set-up isn't right. 10 year old topics might be concerned with humidity but nothing recent supports anything about that set-up.
I'd bet money that 99% of sellers who send freebies have no idea Maine is so ridiculous.
In any case, of your 3 legal species G. pulchripes is a good compromise between interesting/affordable. A juvenile will probably cost the same as an adult female rosie and be much cheaper than the G...
The best deals are on craigslist (sometimes the worst are too lol).
The best variety is on the classifieds of this forum.
Online vendors run the gamut from great to terrible. Many will have reviews here on the forum, many will not. If they don't have reviews, ask lots of questions because...
You can't feasibly take them with you so that kinda only leaves entrusting them to someone else.
See if there's a local Facebook page for tarantula hobbyists. Keeping up with local hobbyists is about the only thing I use Facebook for anyway.
