I recently moved my AF ~7" lowland subfusca from a 12×12×18" enclosure to an 8x8x12". Both enclosures contain what I consider to be more than enough hiding places and ground cover. I moved her because she hardly ever used even half the space of the larger enclosure at night. She's doing great...
I hope you're right about them usually getting bolder as they get bigger. I remember a regular on here saying that they had observed the opposite, in that they become less visible as they mature. Don't know whether that was based on one or more examples. I have a ~4" female that's almost always...
Aesthetics are important to me. These enclosures are usually illuminated in red during the day. The decorative plants are native to the regions of the inhabitants.
B.lateralis and mealworms here. Used to use locust but they take too much looking after and make a mess when the T takes them down. I can't be doing with bug guts all over the enclosures. The mealworms are fed to my larger Ts in a plastic dish with a guinea pig pellet or two to attract...
All of my enclosures are illuminated by interconnected led strips. Any colour is selectable at the click of a button. Red is the default during the day with all lighting off at night. Dark orange shows off most T's really nicely when visitors drop round.
I now have 9 out of 10 of the T's that I set out to get when I entered the hobby. 4 of these were sexed juvi females when I bought them. The other 5 were unsexed and have all turned out to be female. This includes 1 unsexed juvi from TSS (and 1 spiderling). I wanted females so I've been lucky...
Does anyone know of any other instances of terrestrial tarantulas climbing, falling and badly injuring themselves within their enclosures? I've searched for a variety of key words on this and other forums but haven't found any. There's a good number of reports of ruptured abdomens and other...
I keep slings in Ferrero Rocher boxes of different sizes. These get polished down with 3 grades of compound before being cleaned and drilled. A bit over the top praps but they look stunning when done. My larger enclosures have red led lights installed and the next project is to add these to the...
