I've been out of the hobby for roughly 2 years but I've recently returned to see there hasn't been much change whatsoever. I just wanted to ask if there were any new fad species or if there was anything interesting going on. Last I remember being brought in was the Indonesian "piceoflava."...
Okay, I can agree with the spines as other species possess them, but I definitely see highland specimens of Malaysian cherry reds displaying higher concentrated areas of red while lowland varieties tend to stay green and red.
True, but these aren’t necessarily common in comparison to 25cm specimens and such. These pop up usually once or twice a year or so and don’t get showcased nearly enough for them to be truly documented. Just photos and such. Still cool though
Extra Notes:
-I added a few distinct things in the locale category that might be weird: Bundled Thai Pedes, Malaysian Jewels, and Yunnan Tricolors. I don't have any necessary proof to say that jewels and tricolors are dehaani, but it was among my better judgement to add them in there anyways...
Overview: Scolopendra dehaani Rhys R.
Preface:
Scolopendra dehaani is one of the most common, yet also one of the most biologically diverse species of Scolopendromorpha kept in captivity. Most hobbyists find this species...
True. That’s where the confusion comes in for most people who get to this point. “What do I call mine”. There’s always going to be variation in color, but giving a whole new name isn’t going to fix it. Light Color Form, or LCF and Dark Color Form, or DCF, are both ways to describe your pede...
Thai cherry and Thai red dragon looks pretty much identical to the Thai red legs I’ve seen. Not to be confused with flame legs. Most Thai pedes are from the same suppliers and they’re usually just labeled differently to get buyers. Just from what I’ve seen.
Both are dehaanis. Thai cherry is the wackest wack of all the wack pede names. Thai cherry is exclusively a selling name IMO. Colors don’t even compare to ugly Malaysian cherries.
Hey guys, due to the fact people that people liked my “robusta” post and encouraged me to do more informative posts, I’m asking you guys what you NEED to know about S. dehaani. Ask me anything, I don’t care how dumb it is, if it’s a good question, it’s getting incorporated into my summary. For...
Just a side note: should I do more of these types of posts? Like clearing up muddy taxon and stuff like that? I feel like I finally grasp everything that’s apparent in the hobby and I’m not completely flipped upside down.
They’re pretty well sorted out, but sellers mislabel. Trapps been selling his dark banded “robusta” pedes for a while, but while not being correct, it’s easy to refer to.
