i generally try to give arboreals cork rounds rather than flats. Tarantulas tend to avoid light, and as soon as they find the dark spot my guys were happy.
If you want it to settle down behind the flat, just cover the back of the enclosure with cardboard for a few days till she puts up some web...
ABS and PVC plastics can be toxic and not used to make toys (unless you are 3d printing them yourself), the plastics used to make toys like these are thermo plastics (they can be heated and formed in a mold) ie Polystyrene (PS) and Polyethylene (PE). , which is are used for food containers, so...
I've personally kept almost every sp of Poecilotheria and S calciatum and the H mac are the 2 that still makes me nervous enough to not bother with them, and my C lividus female was by far the meanest T I've ever had or seen for that matter so honestly always be as prepaired as possible.
Just...
Your best best is probably the acrylic boxes. Lightweight super clear, no screen and very easy to modify if necessary.
I've never had issues with screen tops before but I only had a few over the years, but i would be more concerned about the lack of cross vent but you would probably be fine.
Why would you assume that?
The hairs aren't "toxic", they are basically barbed fishhooks/arrows , it's sharp and pokey and when it gets into your skin it causes irritation.
Unless the hairs are decomposing, I would assume they would remain indefinitely, and even then the T isn't gonna be...
Yes. While can't comment on the T actually kicking the hairs when not threatened, the presence of the hairs is pretty much a given.
When I rehoused my T stirmi and was cleaning up the old enclosure I made sure to wear at least protective gloves, granted Theraphosa hairs are known to be...
Low 80's would be fine, but if your anywhere near SoCal you can expect the temp to get substantially higher than that. At which point all bets would be off for me.
Personally i see temps up to the high 70s with the ac on, every now and again.
You may end up constantly tearing up the webbing in this enclosure, my avics have ALWAYS webbed the very top of the enclosure.
I've found front facing doors are much more convenient with these guys.
I'm don't think there's much you can do besides trying to wipe it down with warm water. Usually vinegar is recommended to clean hard water stains, and although environmentally friendly its too acidic for Perspex and i believe the spider as well.
You may want to use Distilled/RO water to spray...
So I've seen articles about symbiotic behaviors between mygalomorph spider species for the last few years (probably about 5 years ago now), and now I've found this relatively recent study documenting a surprisingly large number of Tarantula/Amphibian relationships...
If it flips over its asking for a belly rub.
If it sticks up its front legs its asking for a high five/ hug.
Slapping the glass means it wants to get out and go for a walk.... OBVIOUSLY!
Tarantulas love bass music, so make sure you let your T hand out on the neck of your guitar the next time...
Like venom said, not the most practical, but if you wanna go for the look i would recommend looking for something with a single door, the curved double door design is gonna be a pain in the ass if you wanna try and put up a substrate dam.
