Yeah, the clock of doom is ticking down for the poor fella, unfortunately the female is still eating and I threw her last molt away as she was bought as a confirmed female. Will cross my fingers she molts in the next few months so this wee man can have some fun time before kicking the bucket.
Had my 3" (7cm) H pulchripes molt yesterday (at long last!) but its already pegged out with tibial hooks (Surprised males matured at such a small size tbh) So this wee man is an adult at 7cm? I aso have a female of the same size, is she too small to breed (as I believe females are much bigger)?
Doesnt matter how many tarantula groups and forums you join and take advice from, you WILL make mistakes, especially when starting out in the hobby. My two biggest mistakes were leaving live food in T's enclosures, bad news for molting animals especially! Like you I lost a couple of T's to rogue...
Just discovered a few days ago that my P subfusca female has some 1st instar ( well I think they're first instar as they're scurrying about but staying close together with lack of adult coloration) in her cork tube hide. Im chuffed to bits obviously, but Im not sure if I should split them up...
Been in the hobby a few years now and am thinking of starting a breeding project of sorts, as several of my T's are starting to mature. My question is this, when a mature male makes a sperm web and fills up his bulbs how long does that sperm remain active for? Tried unsuccesfully to mate a pair...
I think its more to do with the fact that people anthropomorphise animals deemed to be cuddly or more aware. And anything they cant anthropomorphise goes into the hobby category, just ask Colin my mm p subfusca.
55, mostly slings and juves. 4 more on the way (2 x P Subfusca LL slings, 0,1,0 P regalis and 0,1,0 G pulchra). Been in the hobby for about 5 or 6 years now. Still react like a little kid on Christmas morning when I see a fresh molt!
Definately got one male and probably a young female or juve then, as this latter one has the reddish back legs. Both the same size and age though. As a sidenote, the male molted twice in a matter of a month too which Ive never seen before, and I dont mean from juve colouration to adult, I mean...
Mine tend to molt more often when the temp increases. They're kept at 67-70 degrees over the winter months, maybe get one or two molts (out of 55 sling/juve T's) then in the summer temps in their room jumps by about five or six degrees....et voila! Most of them will molt. Thats my personal...
Have two P Victorii which have matured into what I believe are 2 males (thats typical of my luck!) but one looks slightly chunkier on the legs and pedipalps, and has more red hairs on its back legs than the other BUT they both have small, lemon shaped abdomens, so is there a chance Ive sexed it...
Dont get me wrong I'd use them again if there were no other options. But nowadays I use mushed up waxworms and cricket drumsticks. So to get back to your car analogy....I'd get a tank instead.
It was when I first started in the hobby. Sometimes I'd forget I'd left them in there, only for them to surface weeks later to chomp on my molting slings. Silly nOOb mistake.
With regards to YT, too many 'mystery box' unboxings and online spider retail endorsements for my liking these days. Unsubscribed from a few channels because of this. I personally want to learn, with a scientific edge, about these beautiful animals, not watch somebody cream themselves over a...
