chilli rose turantula strikes for no reason! help!

I have been bitten by T's that are considered "nice" (G.rosea, B.smithi, B.albo) and not bitten by T's that are considered "not so nice" (H.lividum, P.murinus, E.murinus). No hard and fast rule and always exceptions. I live by the philosophy...."If you handle any spider, expect to be bitten"...

    Brown Recluse?

Check for health programs within your county. Many times there is help available with regard to healthcare but many do not know that it is out there. I'm not sure what sources you looked at regarding the treatment options but WebMD is a good source. Just keep an eye on things. I have not...

    Brown Recluse?

Sorry, I have to argue a few points here. I think that traxfish offers a sound argument and I tend to agree. Here is the link to the article he/she refers to: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/518429_2 You mention that one should not believe everything they read on the internet. I agree...

    Brown Recluse?

So of the bites that you have seen, you have recovered and positively identified the spider as L.reclusa or that it was actually a spider bite? You seem very certain that there are L.reclusa here so my charge to you....prove it. Send me one, two, five, whatever you can get. PM me and I will...

    Hair removal

I have been "haired" many a time by many different species. Usually, I do nothing and just suffer, however tonight, I decided to rub vinegar on the affected area and it seemed to do the trick. Not sure it is simply that I did not get hit that bad but I will try this again in the future and...

    Widow Keepers

You have to love Dr.House. I did have someone PM the other day asking if my avatar was a "killer." Perhaps this is from my past avatars featuring the likes of: Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, and Richard Ramierez. So as not to seem morbid, I like to mix it up with relatively normal folks as well:)

    Widow Keepers

I like the idea of the established set-ups - especially pertaining to new keepers. This would really benefit them I think. I love the idea of tech support as well.....just as long as we don't outsource all of our support to minimum wage workers in far off lands;)

what are your thoughts on this

It is funny, (and a good point I might add), that putting "Spider Bite" will no doubt draw more attention. When people say "What else could it be?" I usually answer with, "about a thousand other things!" I sometimes ask people, (when they express their fear of spiders), if they are afraid of...

what are your thoughts on this

The likelihood of it being a spider bite is fairly low considering the dog was given benadryl and responded. Some sort of allergic reaction. It could be just about anything in that yard.

    Help please somethings wrong!

Does he have a water source? Perhaps he is dehydrated. Give him access to water ensuring that the dish is large enough for him/her to actually be able to draw water from....i.e., wide enough.

    Widow Keepers

I think alot of people, (myself included), had dreams of coming into the hobby and making a "killing" on selling.{D I'll bet many of you ran into the same problem that I did.....any money you made, went right back to buying more stuff!

    Widow Keepers

I just wanted to say that there is absolutely nothing wrong with selling them. Especially if it justifies the hobby for you. When it becomes difficult is when new species come about and people mark them at incredibly high prices just because of the laws of supply and demand. Honestly, people...

    Widow Keepers

Buthus, the comments are all well deserved. You changed my thinking as has Jordan as of recent. I would like to host a Widow forum but I don't know enough about hosting a forum to do it. I should do some reading;) Not sure how much it costs etc. The co-op thing is just a thought. It...

    Mactans or Hesperus?

What information do you have to support the contrary? The belief that everything was essentially L.mactans included the idea that it was worldwide not just limited to the US. There is no reason to believe that L.mactans would not exist in California considering L.geometricus populations are...

    Widow Keepers

Awesome! Glad to hear that it is something that many feel strongly about. Trading is always a good thing. Btw......I do have a large female C.crawshayi (about 6-7") that I would like to trade for some L.bishopi, L.geos, L.mactans, and others. Thought I would try to sneak it in here versus...
