I read (all over the interwebs) that I should keep my B. albopilosum (my first T) on dry substrate, but have since been advised to provide a damp area, and to rotate that damp area. I have a water dish too. Sound good? The coco fiber I'm using seems to take ages to dry out though, so I'm...
Yeah, I was thinking precut for my first attempt. Best to learn how to walk before I try to run. And did you get the edges of the sheets polished? That seems to be an option that's offered, but I wasn't sure if that helps with bonding the sheets together or not.
I've visited Germany and thought...
Great looking enclosures. Top work. I'm seriously thinking about having a go at this. I'm very interested in how people cut the acrylic and drill it, or if they bought it precut. Also looking at Tensol 12 for bonding.
Ok, I think I have a good plan now. Thanks everyone. But being an inquisitive chap .... is the damp area for general humidity, for actually drinking from, or just to better mimic a more natural environment for them? She was hanging out on the damp area for a while and I wondered if she liked...
Thanks, good tip - I really appreciate all the advice. I've only had her a week or two and thought I'd done loads of research beforehand, but the more you read the more conflicting info comes up. BAH :banghead:
Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I have a question about this. I just got my first T - an adult female Brachypelma albopilosum. Ive put a water bowl in. I've read they like their substrate dry, so is have dry coco fiber. However, I've read that some people flood their water bowl so some...
My hoppers only seem interested in greens. But see my post above - you just might have saved a mantid. I'm not going to risk it just in case. Maybe I'll treat them all to a McDonalds tonight - no chance of any carrots there :)
You know, it's funny you say that. I fed my superworms some carrot the other night, but my T didn't seem interested in one. I was going to give it to a mantid instead but then I read the post from GreasyLake. I'm glad I did. This is news to me, but not worth the risk.
You know, I've kept and bred mantids for years and never heard that. Not saying it's not true - I've mainly fed them hoppers and they pretty much don't like anything but greens. But have u got a link for that - I'm interested. Cheers.
I've had a successful pairing a few days ago, just waiting on an egg sac now. Problem was, I felt I had to remove her decor - it was a big hollow bark tube that would have made removal of the slings a total nightmare. I was a bit concerned this might stress her out. She's still eating tho which...
Haha. I've got a 5 year old nephew who loves all of it. He even bravely handled one of my big mantids. He's totally hooked on it all and got loads of books on spiders and such. I bought him a couple of stick insects and 6 months later they're still alive. They even survived show and tell. The...
Yeah I've got a bit of "bed-blocking" going on ... I've got a bunch of incredibly ancient mantids that should have croaked it ages ago. Totally messed up my rotation. No lack of social care for the elderly in this house - it's the youngsters stuck on the waiting list at the moment. Have to...
