    G. rosea male matured 3 years ago molted last night!

I think he's going to be okay. He has eaten 2 fat crickets and I've seen him sipping from his water dish. I even caught sight of him preening and grooming yesterday. He's still a bit of a crabby jerk, and of course his peds are destroyed, but thats okay. I'm glad he's okay. :D

    Another Pet shop story..

Ignorant pet store drones really make the teeth clench. I've been banned from one pet store for a situation much like yours. 12 neglected, malnourished and dehydrated tarantulas on aspen bedding (like you would put rodents on), no hides, sponge chunks with no water dishes, and probably every...

    G. rosea male matured 3 years ago molted last night!

I noticed he looked alot more slender in the legs after the ordeal too, but he moves around just fine and seems to stay stretched and sprawled out more than he used to as well. He's a grouchy, twitchy little crab but I'm glad he's okay too. :D

    G. rosea male matured 3 years ago molted last night!

Nah, I meant that it looks as though his palps made it through the molting process okay. After he had kicked his old suit off and was still on his back, everything looked okay.

    G. rosea male matured 3 years ago molted last night!

I don't think the actual process of the post mature molt caused the damage in Soliel's case. In pics 3 and 4 of the original set I posted, they looked okay. I think while I was away from home, he got back on his feet and did the damage somehow. Hard to say. :? He still seems to be doing...

    G. rosea male matured 3 years ago molted last night!

Blah! Sorry the updated pics aren't so great. I put some white paper on my clipboard for contrast, but the lighting leaves much to be desired. Pic 1 is of Soliel's molt and the rest are of him and the damage he managed to do to his peds. Soliel asked me to thank you all for your kind...

    G. rosea male matured 3 years ago molted last night!

Update, status report, and new pics. Soliel is recovering from his unusual ordeal very well, but ... his peds are destroyed. :( In the original 4 pics, 1 and 2 are taken the night I caught him getting started, and 3 and 4 were the next morning when he was in his new suit, and all of his...

    G. rosea male matured 3 years ago molted last night!

Nothing that I'm aware of out of the norm... I maintain him as I have all the G.rosea I've cared for. Temperature at about 70 F, crickets and superworms 2-3 times a month, chemical-free peat substrate, no direct sunlight, and always fresh water in his dish. Good thing I managed to aid in...

    G. rosea male matured 3 years ago molted last night!

I donated my copy of the guide to a little girl in the neighbourhood when she started collecting about a year ago. I don't recall what's on page 88.

    G. rosea male matured 3 years ago molted last night!

In my time spent keeping and caring for arachnids, I notice differences in longevity across different species. My C. cyaneopubescens was big, fast, and healthy before he hooked out 8 months ago. Now he is scrawny, rarely eats, and constaly roams his enclosure looking for a mate. My G. rosea...

Nope, no harm at all. He is recovering like a champ!

    G. rosea male matured 3 years ago molted last night!

Soliel, hooked out about 3 years ago, so you might imagine my surprise when I peeked in and saw him on his back. I've been keeping and caring for tarantulas and scorpions for about 13 years and have never seen this happen. He is almost 6 years old total, he has mated with my female G. rosea...

    B. albopilosum behavior

I've cared for many of these Honduran beauties. They all burrowed down a few inches or so, ate voraciously, and were very calm and even tempered. The big girly B. albopilosum I have now is typical in all these areas except for the attitude. She has a hair-trigger threat display, strikes at...

How long has your male Grammostola rosea lasted after maturing?

Bravo! Applause to the old man for staying locked and loaded. My old boy "Soliel" seems content to do nothing after 1 spermweb, and surviving a mating with my female "Zoey". Nice pic of Faye Valentine you have there too, btw.

How long has your male Grammostola rosea lasted after maturing?

Over the past fifteen or so years of keeping many species of arachnids, I've never held onto many G. rosea males for very long due to trading or selling to other enthusiasts who wanted mates for thier females. Next month (May 08) will mark three years of maturity for the male G. rosea I have...

I thought for sure thats what it was when I first saw it. What threw me off was the thin black striping in the length of the legs and the disposition. The other two A. seemani I kept and cared for never once acted like this one.

    Please help identify this one.

Rescued from a horrible petshop for me by a close friend. They sold it to her as a "Stripeknee Baboon". As far as I know, there is no such thing. Plenty of defensive attitude. Small, black spines or spurs on rear four legs. Any guesses?
