No sign of Red. But last night, another orb weaver (presumably male) came looking for her. He looked in the eaves where she had been living. Then he built a web parallel to where her web hadbeen. Do spiders locate each other by pheromones? I wish Red would reappear.
Three nights ago, Red suddenly disappeared. She had stopped remaking her web and just was guarding an egg. Am so afraid she died. It is like losing a good friend. I think she was a neoscona. Cant wait to meet her offspring next year.
Red seems very tired. Her web looks like something made by a drunk spider. Last night she didnt eat the cricket i gave her. She is guarding an egg case. Tonight, i put some bee pollen(moistened) because i read that orb weavers consume it. I fear she has reached her design limit. I will miss her...
Red wasnt getting anything in her foot web, so i have been putting moths and crickets there. Now she looks fat and happy.
I always worry i am violating the Star Trek Prime Directive, but i sometimes cant help but interfere. So for the past two weeks, i have kidnapped a small orange orb weaver...
I wouldnt move it. We have some on our window screens and they disperse rapidly in the breeze. I have never seen them end up inside. Depending on the type of orb weaver and egg, you would likely crush it.
Every night, Red shows up. She looks skinny. Have been trying to toss 2 wk and 3 wk crickets into her web but they dont stick. What can i give her? There are few bugs anywhere outside, just pholcuses eating each other.
Last night Red finally showed up again, then made a perfect but smaller web in her usual spot. Then she hung there until at least 5 am, maybe watching the sunrise? Dont know if she is gone or will reappear tonight. She lost a lot of body size making her egg.
We have them all through our house! They are invasive and get into everything. They love to eat crickets and lay eggs with 40 offspring. They like hides such as cork board or cocunut half shells. We hate them! They are lovely and are said to eat black widows which is a plus but they have bitten...
Have watched spiders in our yard for yrs. Sadly there are few to no orb weavers this year, maybe due to heat. Here is one orbie just outside our back door.
Will try to get one soon. Only have an old flip phone. Luckily Toots is looking better, now that the steatodas on her cork bark are gone. Hope she is eating again.
Our five year old florida whipscorpion Toots seems weak. She kept going upside down last night. Cleaned her tank. Found three tiny steatoda spider babies on her hides and removed them. I check twice per day but the darn things get into all our tanks. She seems very thin. She has been standing...
