I have thought it was odd that the spider came from Petco. Especially since it was a grown Brachypelma. I've spoken to several friends/hobbyists about it, with much speculation. I'll have to go to the store and talk to my buddy who works there to find out more information.

Back Side Front The front was tricky to focus as she was pretty close to the wall of her enclosure (limitations of cell phone cameras). She's such a cutie. She didn't budge throughout the whole shoot :) Hybrids are always tricky. What I've seen with cichlids is that a hybrid can...

female metatarsus detail spermatheca close up Typical scenario, bought at that place where the pets go as a boehmei for a cool $70. This is clearly not a pure fire leg. Opinions? Regardless of her ID, I find her to be a pretty little charmer, and I'm happy with that price even if she...

    Here We Go.

I feel like although a degree of inbreeding can't be avoided, since much of our collections originate with relatively few imports, care should be taken to avoid direct inbreeding between sac mates, and maybe a few generations. The main reason being the way genes work. Inbreeding tends to cause...

I feel like I can see the spermathecae. Do you see those dark areas on the flap? They look symmetrical to my eyes, and I feel like that sort-of-semi-circle underneath the flap is the bursa copulatrix. What do you guys think?

Regarding molt sexing and location of spermathecae

Nice! Congrats on the females! It's always such a nice feeling confirming that you have a girl... I quite literally jumped up and down and yelled much like that kid who got a Nintendo 64 for Christmas.
