is this an alright setup for a balfouri sling? Do they really need the depth to burrow or will they start webbing at this size? It’s about 3/4 of an inch
The B. Albo and G. Pulchripes will make great first T’s :) they were my first two as well. Just don’t be afraid of getting anything that isn’t a ‘reccomended’ first tarantula. So long as you do your research and always remember what they’re capable of, you’ll be fine. My only real advice would...
My first T was a G. Pulchripes, and it took a year for it to stop being an absolute psycho haha. I feel like the whole ‘first T’ dilemma is a bit overthought
The GBB and the Hapolopus sp. Colombia are notably quicker than the former three that you mentioned, but they'd all make fine first tarantulas, given you're aware of what they're capable of. Don't overthink it! Just go for whichever appeals to you the most.
how long does everyone wait for hot glue to cure when used in enclosures? i don't usually rush these things, just wondering if leaving it overnight is longer than necessary
was a lot smaller than I thought it’d be haha. Is there a high mortality rate for pedelings? How often do you reckon I should feed something this big? It’s about 2.5”. I feed my slings about once a week, would that be alright?
Yea the seller himself doesn’t know the Sp. but says it’s presumably a subspinipes. My only real concern is the temperatures really, wasn’t sure if pedes could tolerate the fluctuating indoor temperatures as well as T’s. I’m from Malaysia so it’s naturally pretty warm, hence the need for air...
Eh might be a silly question, but does anybody who stores their substrate in large amounts in tubs with lids put ventilation holes in them to prevent any kind of mould breakouts? or would it be just fine without any holes?
so pretty much the same temps as i'd keep any T that's of the same locality then? does care for pedes deviate much from that of T's? can't seem to find any proper caresheets online
Hey, I live in a pretty naturally humid country (Malaysia), and was wondering if it'd be okay to keep pedelings in a room that's air conditioned throughout the night?
does anybody keep their pedes in air conditioned rooms? Looking to pick up an S. subspinipes and was wondering if I’d have to keep it in a separate room from my T’s due to the air conditioning
Was the mealworm cut in half or something? if so it could've just been feeding on the fluids. Don't worry too much, it would not have gone for a meal had it not been ready.
Geniculatas are great showcase specimens that are very fun to keep. Versicolors on the other hand are among the prettiest t's out there! bit tricky to keep as slings but definitely doable with the right advice.
